Review by Lucy H., age 7, Tampa Bay MensaThis is a short non-fiction book about different kinds of amphibians. I learned about what they eat, if they have camouflage, and even about the life cycle of a frog.I like that I can look back into this book for facts the next time I have a school project on amphibians. I also really liked the part about camouflage, because it is like a fun game of hide and seek. The illustrations were great too, because they all have the right colors and look real.Even though the book was interesting, I didnât like how it only has one sentence on each page. I think the author could have taught the reader more. Otherwise the book was just right.I think the book is best suited for kids in kindergarten and lower, because it is very simple. I recommend it to just boys, because amphibians might gross girls out. But, it didnât gross me out because I am used to reading gross things.Overall I give it 4 stars.
About Amphibians gives just the right amount of information for preschool children, piquing their interest and satisfying that curiosity of those who wanted more facts with the section at the end. The pictures are wonderful and we appreciate that each animal is identified.
This is the 5th book in this series that we have purchased for out toddler, and each one is just as good as the last. The illustrations are are phenomenal, the text simple but very informative, and everything comes together beautifully. I am certain that this book and series would be age appropriate for children as old as 8, but certainly are very good for curious toddlers as well. So happy to have found this series!
I am a fan of Cathryn and John Sill. I am trying to complete my ABOUT ....series . The books are so helpful in introducing my preschoolers to Animal Classification, habitats, etc. The children enjoy the pictures and remember the information well.
I loved this book -- I do frog & toad surveys for a park and wanted something to help children not be afraid of amphibians and this book is great -- pictures are wonderful too.
super informative and kid-friendly-great illustrations-I have the whole series of these books in my classroom and my students LOVE them
Perfect book for preschool age!
Perfect!
