The "Who Was..." series is a wonderful way to get kids to read about history. They'll learn different & interesting things in these books they won't get anywhere else. My children asked for them for Christmas! They can't put them down. I homeschool and these are a great tool for learning. My 11 year old reads them on her own very well and my 7 yr. old reads them with a little help. Highly recommend.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart started to play the piano when he was three years old. Then he started to compose his own music when he was four. I enjoy all of the books in the Who Was series. This book tells you so much about Mozart.
My 10 year old daughter loves reading these "Who Was..." books. They are fun and very informative. She would buy the whole series if she had the money!
My daughter loves this series. At 9, these books present just the right mix of easily read words, coupled with some more challenging terms. We often read them together, to take advantage of the 'teachable moments' found for both of us. As a history buff and emerging history buff, we both enjoy the content and style very much. We've read several of these now, and each is a fun look at a notable figure. I recommend these books without reservation.
This was a happy accident. I had no previous knowledge of the "Who Was ...." series, and when I opened the book, much to my dismay, it was for children. I began to read, simply because I had invested the funds, and was more than pleasantly surprised at the effort (and the Kindle investment!). A very humanistic and sympathetic tale of the life of one of the giants of Music. I fully believe that if Mozart had lived to Bach's ripe age of 65, the course of music would have achieved stretching approaching atonality. The book is a fair and un-glossy story but told in a manner that children of all ages will find endearing. Coupled with a structured listening program, I think anyone would go away greatly impressed with this man's genius. A very quick read for an adult, but a very thoughtful one as well.
My students are in a 5th and 6th grade gifted class and all really enjoy the entire series of "Who Was?" "Who Is?" and "What Was?" books for their AR (Accelerated Reader) goals. These series are all classified as nonfiction, with book level from 4.5-6.0 and they are worth 1 point.
Great little book. We buy lots of Who Was books and use them for homeschool enrichment. Short chapters, larger font, and lots of pictures make these books an easy read. This was a great addition to our collection.
This is the first of this series that I bought for my 9-year-old-twin granddaughters. I wanted something that they could understand and enjoy to accompany the photos I had for them of Salzburg and Mozart's "Geburtshaus" (birthplace), plus a little bust of him that I gave them. Now all I need is to buy them some of his music to go along with everything else!
