When reading the other reviews for this product, make sure you disregard the ones that say they are reviews from the Caldecott Honor winning version. THAT IS NOT THIS BOOK. This one is illustrated by Pam Adams. The Caldecott-winning one was illustrated by Simms Taback, and even though lists his name on this entry he has nothing to do with this book. Just so you know. :)
We bought this by accident when searching the Kindle store, but decided to keep it to read to a two-year-old visiting neice. You can barely read the print it is so dark. The page fills only a portion of the screen so the print is also tiny and we have the large Kindle DX. In Kindle form it is just a loser as a book. Save your money.
I purchased the hardcover version of this book and it's hard to read the entire ryhme by the time you get to the cow. The previous parts of the ryhme are written in a circle. Pretty annoying. I'm planning on returning it.
I thought this would be a great way for my students to practice the story again. I should have read all the reviews first. The images are of very poor quality and difficult to read. And not in color? I know the kindle is not there yet, but I figured it would be in color for the iPad.
Since recieving this book I read a minimum of 4 times a night. It is a hit with my 4 and 2 year old. My 4 year old reads it to his brother every morning. It was a favorite story when I was a kid and I'm glad my children are enjoying it now.
I love singing stories to my elementary students in music class. Over time, the students learn the tunes as well and sing with me. They enjoy visuals which is why the thought of musical "story time" is usually a success for me. I own almost all of the "There Was an Old Lady" stories. There are books for each holiday and season. The students always become excited when they see one of these books in my hand to "read-sing" together!
Such an adorable book. You can't tell by the picture, but there is a hole in the middle of the book (great for those with sensory issues) that gives clues of the next page. Some of the writing is also circular. Illustrations are fun and colorful. This is a very fun book to read and we have spent quite a bit of time reading and rereading it! Good buy when you buy used! My experience with used books has been great - none of the books I ordered used have been marked on or torn. This make terrific buys!
I ordered this book because I remember it as a kid, I work with small children in their home and when I started reading this book with my clients I realized I didn't like it. Great concept for a sequential task but some of the wording was a little too morbid for the small babies I work with "I guess she will die" on every page. I will put this on my bookshelf and probably not use it again
