Unicorns & Mystical Creatures is a coloring book full of unicorns (!!!!) and mystical creatures but mostly unicorns!!! Personally I am thrilled that the book is primarily full of unicorn designs but my excitement is tempered with a bit of guilt — I feel bad that I’m not squeeing over the other mystical creatures, they must be so tired of being overshadowed by unicorns. It’s hard to compete with the magical horn, long flowing mane and tail, and all the things we associate with unicorns. Maybe they have a support group….ANYWAY! Back to the book! Unicorns & Mystical Creatures is sized 8.5 x 11 inches and contains 44 single-sided (!!) designs on perforated (!!) paper. The paper is satisfactory — it is a bit heavier than copier/printer paper but the paper is a bit transparent as you can easily see the inky drawing lines from the next coloring page. There are two pages in the back specifically designed for the purpose of testing coloring mediums and palettes — this is a great feature and I wish more coloring books would include pages like this!Of the 44 designs, 30 designs feature unicorns. There are 3 designs featuring pegasuses (the cousins of unicorns!!). The remaining 11 designs feature other mystical creatures to include the loch ness monster (1), phoenix and birds (3), dragons (4), griffins (2), and a sea serpent (1).It’s true that the Forever Inspired Coloring Book series is aimed toward kids, but the designs are intricate enough that adults will enjoy coloring them too! The majority of the designs span the entire page and all of the designs have many things to color. The items to color vary in size but even for the smaller components, you will be able to color them with a dull pencil point. The inky drawing lines are dark and of a medium thickness.
