This is one of the best of the more recent books by Mike Berenstain. Very imaginative with great illustrations. It should be noted that this is a first time READER book. The previous reviewer mistaken compared it to one of the First Time Books by Stan & Jan that were intended to be read TO small children, not read BY them. The words and sentence structure are more simple, but this is on purpose! Great addition to the series!
A Pirate Berenstain Bears book! My son is going to love it!( thoughts that were running through my head when I saw the book). The reality is this book fell way below expectations. I do not like reading it which is good because my son doesn't want me reading it anyways. I can't pinpoint what is wrong except there is nothing to keep my sons attention. We have the Berenstain bears under the sea book which is much better than this one. As a mom who has read numerous Berenstain Bear books I would say skip this one unless your child is a true pirate fanatic.

Mike Berenstain just can't write well like his parents. This story has very basic word choice and is just plain boring. Stick with Stan and Jan and avoid Mike Berenstain, his books are terrible!
