My kids were growing up in the 90's and we watched their television shows together. After homework and chores were done, they each got to choose a show to watch and it was pretty much always a show on Nickelodeon. Seeing “The Splat” coloring book show up was a trip down memory lane for me. Almost all of our favorites are in the book including: Real Monsters, Angry Beavers, CatDog, Hey Arnold, Ren and Stimpy, Rocket Power, Rocko's Modern Life, Rugrats, and the Wild Thornberrys.The book includes 47 designs. There seems to have been a team of illustrators as there are several styles. Some of the designs have thicker lines and a more open feel while others have thin lines and are considerably more detailed. I like all of the various styles and levels of detail as it makes the book that much more fun to color.This is what I experienced while coloring in this book and testing the paper with my coloring mediums. I will list the coloring mediums I used for testing in the comments section below. These are also the materials I use for most of my coloring.47 Designs based on Nickelodeon cartoon series from the 1990'sPrinted on one side of the page with a quote on the back of the pagePaper is heavyweight, white, slightly rough, non-perforatedGlue BoundMost designs merge into the binding areaBook opens fairly flat for coloring by breaking or creasing the spine heavily.Alcohol-based markers bleed through the paper. I suggest using a blotter page of card stock or several sheets of paper to keep ink from seeping through to the pages below.Water-based markers, gel pens, and India ink pens do not bleed through the paper.Colored pencils work very well with this paper. I got great pigment from oil and wax base pencils. I was able to layer the same color for deeper pigment, layer multiple colors, and blend easily using a pencil style stick blender.
I loved it I pre ordered it a few days before it came out and it just came In the mail today! It's really cool! It has all the 90s cartoons except Doug! But other than that it is just 5 stars!!! 🙂
Great book- hits all the nostalgia points, and has some really great pages to colors. Good mix of fine detail and 'chunkier' drawings, and heavy paper. All artwork is one sided- backs have a quote from the characters.I'll update with some completed pictures, but out of the box I'm very happy with the style and quality of the book.
A really wonderful book, it is filled with pictures that will bring back fond memories and will provide hours of fun. The only reason I did not give this 5 stars is it didn't include as many shows as I would have liked. I would however say that you might want to order 2 as many of the people whom we have talked to and us ourselves is we didn't want to color it because it so nice that we wanted one to remain pristine.
I just got this book a few days ago, and have colored the first page in the book. The rest of the pages have started to fall out!! I am EXTRMELY disappointed in the quality of this book and bind. In all i like the pictures but they do not stay in the book so if you planed on keeping them all in the book and coloring them good luck because they just fall out.
The different designs are extremely nostalgic of the 90s and gives a good variety of many of the classic Nick cartoons. Would greatly recommend if you are a fan of these shows and want to try your hand at some fun designs.
I love it. Just got it delivered to my house today after ordering it 2 days ago. The only thing wrong is the pages are falling/ripping out and I haven't even colored anything yet, just flipped through. But in any case, still a great product ! 90's baby !(:
You need to make a volume 2 of this because you forgot to include Doug!!!
