This book was not what I thought. I assumed it was a basic overview for getting started, a book that I could read with my 5-year-old (beginning reader) son who has just started with Minecraft and asks "How do I...?" and "What does this do?" the whole time he's playing. However, it turned out to be more of a "recipe" book for recreating some rather complicated and impressive structures that other users have made.My son now watches YouTube Kids videos on Minecraft for visual inspiration.

My 7 year old son loves this book. I love it because it's a break from the iPad but it also encourages reading and implementing what was read, a hard thing to teach a young child. Very happy with this purchase! Fun combined with learning.
This was for my 7 year old daughter and she said it was really cool. She took it to summer camp and said lots of girls at camp asked to borrow it and it made rounds. She has read through it several times.
2 super happy little boys!!! The updated Minecraft book is all that they hoped it would be!!! My boys have the original set of books and will not give those up and are loving the updated ones just as much. I am not sure how different the updated ones are but they promise me they have learned new information as well as new techniques. As long as my little men are reading and soaking up new information I am happy!!! My two boys give the new books 2 thumbs up!!
Up until Thanksgiving I had never even heard of Minecraft....and then I visited my nephew for the holidays and I know know more than I could possibly ever want to know about this craze. So as the good Auntie I strive to be, I promised him the last two Minecraft books he needed in order to finish his set. I haven't a clue what this book is about but it worked its magic at having a 7 year old lay in bed for two hours straight engulfed in it. It was a hit and my nephew ate it up. I'm currently contemplating buying him an actual building set of the same kind as well.
Being a 49 year old (that's right not 7) beginner to Minecraft I find this series very inspirational. I admit the examples are a bit extreme sometimes but between the Minecraft Wiki, YouTube and these books, the details come together well enough. The only real limitation is my imagination.My only complaint with the books is the physical size. They are just barley legible to these older eyes. If the books were 8.5" X 11.00" with the same binding and print quality I would be happy to pay 2X or even 3X the price.
The book is one of the most helpful book I have ever read I did novvt have the time to make something in my head but this gave me an idea of what i'm doing so I recomend this book
