I collect women in aviation memorabilia and books about women in aviation. A lot of books for kids have absolutely gorgeous illustrations and this one is no exception. The first paragraph was kind of amusing... (Ruth Elder didn't look at all like her name. At twenty-three years old she was a beauty queen with a sparkling personality, a smile as bright as a toothpaste ad, and plenty of pluck.")I'm familiar with the feats of Ruth Elder and this book captures the highlights perfectly. It's a lot of fun to read.
This children`s book is simple and straightforward. The drawings are appropriate for this type book. The story seems to be accurate. Our grandchildren enjoyed it, especially knowing that Ruth Elder is my first cousin once removed.
