We enjoyed this book so much that we let our readers know about it in a blog post at [...]I'm drawn to Curious George because that playful monkey was one of our daughter's absolute faves. In this Hanukkah book, you get the cute simian himself, along with the man in the yellow hat, in a series of poems about different aspects of the holiday.Here are a few of the things that we especially liked:Each poem is a two-page spread, with tabs on the end illustrated with Hanukkah and other symbols. So it's very tactile and inviting.The illustrations are, as you'd expect, absolutely charming.It's a board book, so it's very sturdy for young readers.It plays on the idea of Curious George and his special abilities and mishaps. For instance, when George spins the dreidel, he can use "both hands and feet." And when he helps make the potato latkes, one egg ends up a gooey mess on the counter.
My children are learning about Hanukkah and this was a cute and fun book. It rhymes and tells about the different traditions that are part of a Hanukkah celebration including the jelly doughnuts and dreidel.
My daughter loves "George the monkey" as she calls him, and I was so excited to see there was a Hanukkah book about George. My favorite part is that they treated Hanukkah as a normal event. So much of the mainstream media specials about Jewish holidays treat Judaism as this foreign "other" religion to learn about. Like the Elmo Hanukkah book where Elmo visits his stereotypical Jewish friends for a Hanukkah party. Cute and all, but I prefer this Curious George book, where George and his friend go to a Hanukkah celebration as just part of their normal life, just as so many of us do. Walking home they even see menorahs in various neighbors' windows. Of course, it's also just a fun book, has cute illustrations, and is informative too. This book is great!
Curious George is a big hit with the kids, and it's so nice to have this for kids exploring their Jewish heritage
this book came just on time, on the first night of Hanukkah. my son, that love George, was so surprise and happy to get this book.
Too complicated of a book for my 18m old. Better wait until 2-3 for this book. My daughter loves reading and can sit through book after book but the images weren't enough to hold her attention. The wording is too long on each page.
By far our favorite Hanukkah book. We have all the books in this series and I really adore this one. The tabs are great and we can read it through or jump to the kids' favorite parts (mine is the cooking page!). I've read over 30 hanukkah books to find a good kids one over the years and this one is easily the best.
Great book that captures the holiday very well. I like it for a lot of reasons. Not many books on the subject that competes well with Christmas books. A great start!
