Say, "little people" here's a book just for you, somewhat like "Where's Waldo?". The difference is that there are 16 double pages with various puzzles for you to browse. You can go looking for each of the bugs, using the chart alongside the pages, giving the number of bugs as well as the name of the bug. The 16 themes range from the tropical treetops, the sandy desert, pond life, the garden shed, and the butterfly house, to many more. All the bugs and insects are very colorful, some with intricate designs, others with their own noticeable body parts. Now, nothing is going to pop out of the page and scare anyone, so go easy, and let your child try a couple examples in each puzzle. Maybe, have him or her use her finger to count out how many she needs to find; then, he or she can go "fingering the bugs" without any threat, If you prefer to work only on one double page layout, put some clear sheets on the pages, and have the child use a washable marker to circle the findings; you can always erase the marks. Take it from me, it's a safe way to control pests! (That's just a joke!) See which of the two page layouts your child prefers, and have her or him move about the book as a personal science lesson. Even an adult will have fun with this book. Don't let this bug you!
My 7 year old Grandson loves all bugs and insects. This is one of his many reference books for his bug hunting that I have purchased for him. The book has detailed photographs of the most common bugs which aid in identification of insects and education about their habits.
My almost three year old loves this book. Getting him to sit on the potty for 10 minutes or more is no longer a battle. He loves to count and spot all the bright and colorful bugs.
The 1001 Things to Spot series was not available when I taught. Now my 3 year old grandson absolutely loves this book as well as 1001 Thing to Spot on a Farm
The three and five year old wanted it every night instead of the usual story. They are learning their bugs. I bought two more books for the other great grandchildren
My 3.5 year old can't get enough of this book. This book is pretty and educational, with colorful drawings of real insects. She can recognized numbers, so she can see how many of each insect to find, and then she counts them as she finds them. I'll definitely be purchasing another "1001 Things to Spot" book - the Sea one looks nice!
