Forget about kids--get this for yourself. I bought it a few days ago, and ever since it showed up, I've been making flowers like a fiend. It's ridiculously easy, and as always with klutz books, pretty much everything you need is included. You supply scissors; if you've got the ones with wavy or crinkly edges, you'll have a few more options. I started with the tissue paper at the back of the book, but since then have been experimenting with all sorts of papers from around the house--old paper bags make surprisingly gorgeous flowers. Instructions for simple pompoms get you started, after which you can whip through everything from sweetpeas and delphiniums to lilies and irises. Templates for the petal shapes are at the back of the book, but freehand shapes are fun too, and work especially well if you've got those previously mentioned wavy scissors. I'm decorating several easter baskets with the garlands I've made, and the garlands can be taken off and easily made into flowery crowns for little princesses. If you want to let the kids share in the fun, watch the pipe cleaner ends--they can really be sharp! And you should tear the tissue sheets out of the book- it takes a pretty firm hand to get them out cleanly. Highly recommended as a gift for girls ages 8 through 12 and an activity for ages 6 and up ; while boys will have fun too, the book looks pretty "girly" at first glance, so it might not be the most exciting thing to unwrap.
If you want to make paper flowers this is the book to get. I had a hankerin' to make some paper flowers and so bought this book, but was not prepared for how much fun it would be. I didn't realise it had everything in it that you need, i.e. tissue paper and pipe cleaners. You would think they'd give you enough to make just a couple but NO! There are 75 sheets of tissue in every color you can imagine and 40 pipe cleaners for stems. My house is overflowing with flowers!! This is not just a book for children, but adults too and I think it would be an especially wonderful gift for a teenage girl. The finished flowers look exactly like the ones in the book and so realistic. And they are so simple! You need to get this book - you won't be disappointed and it is money well spent.
I find that Klutz books are generally the best for learning any new craft. I wasn't even convinced that I wanted to make tissue paper flowers until I saw this book. The cover says that the flowers are "good enough to fool bees." This is only a slight exaggeration. My daffodils and carnations were remarkably realistic and very easy. My six-year-old was able to make pom pom flowers and carnations. After showing her the basics, I came back to the table to find she had made a vase full on her own. The book provides templates, paper, pipe cleaners (for stems), and beautiful pictures that show myriad variations of each bloom. In addition, the book encourages creativity and invented flowers and gives some ideas for these as well. As an adult, I loved using this book and plan to bring it in to the craft class I run with teens. It's a winner!
Klutz Press has done it again with another wonderful book. The flowers are easy to make and look great. Our home was soon blooming with flowers. The only thing you need extra is a pair of scissors and you're ready to go. I'm going to buy a copy for a friend in the hospital for pre-term labor. It'll be a great way to pass the time and brighten up her room.
I LOVE THIS BOOK!I spent a whole weekend off making flower after flower and I still want to make more. The instructions are super-clear, easy & fun, and the book supplies plenty of tissue and pipe cleaners. It says on the back cover "This is not a book - it's a bouquet of flowers in flattened form" (or something like that *chuckle*) and they weren't kidding! Buy it and HAVE fun - you won't be disappointed!:)
This is the absolute, most adorable, creative guide to making paper flowers. I was looking for a book on making paper flowers, but as an adult, I was afraid this book was only for kids. Boy was I wrong. The instructions are simple and easy to follow, yet the finished product looks like you are a creative genius. I highly recommend this book for adults as well as children. It would make a wonderful gift for a daughter, grandaughter, wife, mother, sister, or anyone whose face you'd like to see a big smile on!
A craft kit they can keep on using. I add a pack of colored tissue paper and give it for a gift. Lots of kids can do the craft at once, and they can make all kinds of different flowers, so it allows them to be very creative. Easy to do, and no wrong way to do it. It's been a hit with everyone who received it.
My 4 year old daughter and I bought this to do for a fun craft together and it's been a great hit. It's definitely something we have to do together since it requires scissors and some precise cutting on the patterns. We've made beautiful bouquets and received tons of compliments from friends/family that stop by and see them sitting in the vase. It's a great project to improve her fine motor skills as it requires a lot of finger work on small pieces of paper. We've even gone so far as to purchase a larger package of tissue paper that includes a broader color range than what is included in the book itself. Some of the flowers we made look realistic to the point where you have to get pretty close to figure out that they're created from tissue paper. You really need to have patience with this craft as it can be time consuming with some of the patterns but we definitely recommend it!
