Let me start out by saying that this particular publication is essentially a children's guide book to making three dimensional models and pop-up cards. If you are looking for a series of activities to do with or for your kids (it's written with an eight to eleven year-old in mind) this would be a great book to buy or get from the local library. As the artwork on the front cover clearly shows one of the projects inside is the "Snapping Crocodile"; made from heavy stock green paper, craft knife, scissors, glue, pens, etc. Each project in this book lists what materials you will need with an accompanying series of 5 to 11 color illustrations explaining each step to making the paper craft creations. Two of the more advanced projects in this book are a Squawking Parrot and Pirate ship which involve a little more time and patience than the average younger child may have to accomplish without a parent's or teacher's helping hands. A template for each project can be found in the back of the book that needs to be traced or photocopied, HOWEVER even though they have been color coded, some of them over-lapp each other possibly adding to a younger learner's confusion. There are a total of 12 projects to keep any middle aged kid busy. I suggest this book for children who show an interest in making models, working with paper, origami, sculpting, or organized tasks. If you are an adult looking for a book to aid you or start you off on some creative paper models, this is not your best first choice. Some of the concepts could be used and expanded by a professional to create some promotional or advertising pieces however there is nothing in this book that resembles the very adult and very professional larger compilation that is "Paper Engineering : 3D Techniques for a 2D Material" by Natalie Avella. Artists, Graphic Designers, Marketing & Promotional people head in that direction instead.
This book takes paper craft beyond the ordinary cut and paste projects. Clearly written techniques are described step-by-step. The book includes 6 pages of templates which can be traced. All projects produce 3-D results. Great to teach 'focus on task" and techniques which can be used to create other 3-D items.
