My 5 year old son went through a major paper airplane obsession. I looked all over the place for a book with different kinds of airplanes that had some variety to it, but also good clear picture instructions and planes that weren't too difficult to fold. Lots of airplane books have really complicated planes that require origami type folds and skills. This book is NOT one of those. My son (now 6) can fold every plane in this book himself quite well, and he loves it! Many of them fly pretty well, too!
My son got this book as a gift, since he's been into making paper airplanes. He's five and still hasn't gotten the folding down perfectly, but this book has pretty good instructions for planes that fly well. It also comes with a bit of paper to make the planes with, and stickers to decorate the planes. We also have the Klutz book of Paper Airplanes and the Kid's Paper Air Plane book. I like the Zoom one in the middle of the two. For such a simple book, great planes can be made! The planes fly amazingly well and my boys have loads of fun with the planes for hours, racing them and seeing how far they can go.
I gave this to a seven-year-old girl who is having trouble with reading comprehension. It seems to be helping her. Plus, she gets to play with the results. It is a confidence builder. It comes with good instructions and has tear-out pages with which to make the planes. You can fold a couple of airplanes as a two-person project and then turn the kid loose on her own. Nothing is better for a kid than a feeling of accomplishment.
Used with my 7th grade class. Good technique for reading comprehension practice. When they finished following directions to make the plane, we had a contest to see which one flew the best.
Great book, though could use more stickers to match all of the pictures. My 7 and 4 year old enjoy building and decorating the planes. It is difficult at times for them to fully tear out the pages without ripping them. That and the lack of matching stickers is a bit frustrating for them. Overall it's a great buy and a lot of fun. Plus, the designs are great!
Another kid had this book and i looked at it and i thought "this book isn't bad".Easy instuctions, stickers and stuff,just the only thing bad about it was it was sort of little kiddish.
EASY INSTRUCTIONS WITH LOTS OF DIFFERENT TYPES THAT DO DIFFERENT STUNTS! EVEN THE PAPER IS SUPPLIED AND INCLUDES STICKERS TO MAKE IT EVEN MORE FUN. WE HAVE A LOT OF FUN WITH THEM AND THE PAPER MAY GET USED, BUT THE INSTRUCTION BOOK LASTS AND YOU CAN ALWAYS BUY MORE PAPER!! MIXED IT UP A LITTLE AND CAME UP WITH SOME OF OUR OWN!!
This book was a hit with our 6 year old son (and his classmates!). Some are pretty instructions and some are definitely needing an adult to help. On the down side, we've got about a 100 of these around the house now :/
