French Baroque And Rococo Fashions (Dover Fashion Coloring Book)

Fashion ruled the courts of the "Sun King," Louis XIV (1638–1715), and his successor, Louis XV (1710–1774). The Sun King's quest for glory and love of conspicuous adornment manifested itself in his apparel, and he required the courtiers of Versailles to adopt similarly grand Baroque styles. A lighter fashion sense prevailed at the court of Louis XV, who favored Rococo styles of exquisite refinement. This magnificently rendered, scrupulously researched coloring book covers 135 years of French styles. Its 45 full-page black-and-white illustrations feature a wide spectrum of fashions, depicting costumes of both the nobility and commoners. Starting with the flamboyant cavalier clothing of the 1640s, the drawings trace the transition from Baroque to Rococo apparel, with portraits of farmers, street vendors, and aristocrats in formal and everyday dress. Each illustration is accompanied by an informative caption.

I am an adult colorer. I own almost all of Tom Tierney's coloring books on fashion. As always, the artwork is very good with lots of attention to detail in the design of the costumes. This is a nice, thick coloring book--I think it has around 48 pages. Usually two people are pictured on each page to color. What I especially liked about "The French Baroque and Rocco Fashions" coloring book is that the pages seem to be thicker than in previous ones--which means I can use regular markers to color them, without a bleedthrough problem.

Dover publications are always visually useful. And in the French Baroque period, visuals were always a most prominent element of society. It's especially enjoyable to consider how men chose to adorn themselves then as compared to now. Wow! What a contrast! Good used for homeschoolers and students of fashion.

I am addicted to tom tierny's coloring books. Its fun to color the clothes that you dream maybe you would've worn during that time period. There is information addedon every page as well as the historical names of pieces of clothing and accessories for the men and the women.

okay so I know its an old line thats still not very funny today but with Dover coloring books you cant go wrong. I just purchased these Dover COloring Books for my mother and she loves them. The detail is out of this world and the variety of colors you can use are only limited by your inagination. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
