Simple and easy to understand diagrams make this the perfect origami beginner's book. The addition of an abundance of origami squares in a range of different colors plus a load of two different patterned squares sets an origami novice up for folding for quite a while. I highly recommend this book to the new origami folder.
My grandson Garrett asked for an origami kit for Christmas. As a grammy it is my job to make sure his every wish comes true! I researched to find the best kit I could find for a nine year old boy. This kit was highly recommended and it was a big hit. Now there are little folded up pieces of colored paper everywhere! Everywhere! Everywhere!
This is a great value getting a good origami book (the instructions are good and the book itself is not flimsy) and a lot of paper to get started with. Enjoyed by all ages. Even used this with children with difficulty sitting down and attending to task (ADHD) and it's fun and they surprised me being able to sit still. Great for rainy day or keeping busy when you need to have quiet time.Family fun!
I wish I had listened to the reviewer who said this was difficult even for adults. I did origami as a kid, so I wanted to try it as an adult. The book says beginner and more difficult projects but doesn't identify which are which. I tried the very first project and it didn't come out right. Tried another one, and can't do it. The directions are very difficult to understand. I am going to get the papers and do it from the many free videos on you tube. There are alot of papers--that is the only good thing I can say about this kit.I'm extremely disappointed and frustrated. I thought this would be relaxing--it's not. Don't even consider this for a kid. I wish I had gotten the one that specifically said for beginners. This experience has really turned me off to the whole project. Don't waste your money unless you are already experienced in this craft.
Overall I would have to say that this kit is OK. It is a good beginners kit. The printed and metallic paper is neat, but this paper is not very user-friendly. I prefer other brands. As for the book, it contains some great ideas, and the diagrams are, for the most part, easy to use. However; there is very little consistency to the written instructions; it seems like they sometimes skip a few steps where there should be more guidance, and add in extra, unnecessary instructions in other places. And a lot of the projects involve scissors, which I personally do not like. Overall, it is a good practice kit for the price for the beginner.
If this is your first attempt at origami, then please keep looking. I bought the book because my 9 year wanted to learn it. I thought it would be fun to try and do with her. BIG MISTAKE! She gave up and cried and I myself got frustrated since nothing came out correctly. The book needs better diagrams. I do think the papers are nice, but we wasted a lot of it. I'm not giving up on learning origami, it's just that this isn't the book to learn it from.
This kit is an excellent starter for those looking into origami, or would like a new craft to try with small children. Many of the designs are animal based, and the book encourages decorating the finished animals with markers or colored pencil, which I really liked.However, too many of the shapes are of the standard "boxes" or other boring things that really don't belong in an "extravaganza", and the paper patterns were repetitive. Many of the shapes had scissor or glue steps which really didn't belong and were disappointing, especially since I had to do those myself when working with young ones.
This is a very nice set for a beginner. Pretty paper and not too difficult to follow the easy projects in the book. Anything other than basic was very difficult to follow however. The 5 star rating is still given as I feel the same about all the origami books I have purchase.d
