My daughter just loves these books. She is currently in 5th grade and finds them to be interesting reads. I know she pays attention to the content too because she often tells us what she learned--all on her own. Many parents know how wonderful it is to be volunteered information!
Great oaks from little acorns grow, and so is Jane Goodall’s achievement. All her great work started from a chimpanzee toy. In 1950s, there weren’t a lot of vaccines and medicine. It is incredible that she went to Africa just because of her love and curiosity about chimpanzees. It is hard to find what you love; and is harder to keep your passion on it. Jane has done both. It surprised me that chimpanzees are so similar to humans! They also have anger, happiness, love and evilness. Maybe both good and bad personalities are needed in nature to survive. She is a great scientist and adventurer!By Jack
My 8 year old took an interest in Jane Goodall after she read about Goodall's life in a short story at school. This book was a pretty easy read for her. She felt like she really learned more about her without too much information being packed into a young adult book. These are great tools for children who take an interest in learning. We have purchased a few of these books & have been happy with all of them.
Bought for granddaughter, who is an animal lover, and avid reader. Hoping she will enjoy and be inspired to learn about Jane Goodall. Great price, very speedy delivery, can't wait to hear what she thinks about these books!
I have purchased many of these "Who Was" books and they never disappoint. My grandchildren love them and have even used them for school when they need to do reports on famous people. There are so many that not your run of the mill "famous" person so teachers like their choices too. I will continue to buy these books. I also read each one before I give them to the kids and enjoy them as well.
The "Who is" and "Who was" series of books are very good for young children, informative and honest and inspiring. I loved reading these to my grandchildren, and loved hearing them reading the books when they got a little older.
I used this book for students to study a person in history to write a report on. This was for a 4th grade classroom. Each student read the novel on their own and filled out a novel study that I created for non-fiction books. Students were able to follow the book with ease and understand what they were reading. There were several pictures to aid in understanding. There is also a timeline that helps students understand the timeline of events as they read. Very great resource.
I read this to my 5.5 year old granddaughter chapter by chapter at bedtime. She found it very informative and loved it. Later when someone was talking to her about tv naturalist Steve Irwin she said he looked like Jane Goodall and described Goodall's work to that person. I have liked all the books in this series. Informs kids much more than they will be informed by one time classroom lessons.
