Cute stocking stuffer at Christmas time. The author did change the character of Fritz. He is usually depicted as a mischief-maker. In this version he's just a little tike doing what all small children do. I think children enjoy the Fritz the Bully more.
We had tickets to the Nutcracker ballet, so I bought this to read to my kids (4 and 2) before we attended the show so they would have an idea on what it would be about. The book does an excellent job of telling the story and is just the right length. I definitely recommend.
This is the classic tale and a great Christmas story. We bought this for my child before attending The Nutcracker Ballet. It told the story and led to discussions about the dream and characters Clara encountered.
How could you not love the story of The Nutcracker? Your children will enjoy this one when you first read it to them and then when they learn to read it and admire the illustrations. Good for reading in the weeks leading up to Christmas! Or for ballet hounds!
This is an excellent small version of the classic Nutcracker story. I think the illustrations are very pretty and well done. The story flows nicely, although I think the ending is a little abrupt. As with all Little Golden books, the pages are delicate, but it's a great value.
My 3-year-old daughter loved watching the Nutcracker Ballet, and I told her the story as we watched. I bought her this book as a surprise afterwards. It's a lovely retelling of the classic story. Short, yes, but it includes beautiful artwork that we have both enjoyed.
This is such a cute version of this story. Who doesn't love Little Golden Books?! I wanted to purchase The Nutcracker for my five year old ballerina without breaking the bank. The price of this book could not be beat. It tells the story and is nicely illustrated. Could it have gone into more detail, both in story and illustration? Sure. But I didn't think I needed to pay $15 (or more) to get the "top of the line" when this version does a perfect job at telling the story. It's the perfect length for bedtime to send my girl off to bed with sweet dreams.
My 4 year old daughter loves the Nutcracker, but we were disappointed that this book contains an overly abbreviated version with cartoon drawings rather than a nice photo like you see on the cover.
