This is a squeal to My Life as a Book. Derek loves to skateboard. One day while skating he is discovered by a Hollywood movie agent. The agent gives him a job as a stunt boy for the leading character in a movie. While working the job Derek learns a lot of life lessons. Some of the main themes in the novel are reading difficulties, responsibility, friendship, and bullying. This series reminds me a lot of the Diary of A Wimpy kid series. Fans of that collection should check this one out.
my son read this book in a few days and could not put it down. he's 9 and reads on and slightly above grade level. he's a hard one to please with finding books, but THIS book and those by this author were total entertainment. the pictures are fun. the notes and doodles are fun. the book is just a good, fun book for 9 year old boy in the 4th grade!
Absolutely love these books by Janet Tashjian. My son had to read a book that was nominated for the Nutmeg book award for Summer reading homework and he couldn't find one that sounded interesting so I saw My Life as a Book and had him read that - we both loved it! When I saw My Life as a Stunt boy was available I couldn't wait to get it and we weren't disappointed at all. It's a good book, it flows well and keeps your interest. We will definitely read the rest in the series.
My son absolutely loves this book! He says it's his absolute favorite of all time.Unfortunately the other two books -- my life as a book and my life as a cartoonist were major disappointments.
This is the second in this series, and my son and I loved this even more than the first. The genre is similar to the Wimpy Kid series, but the characters are so much more genuine. The main character has to deal with some very believable adolescent issues but at the same time, the story has action and humor, and makes you laugh out loud. We can't wait to read the next one!
My daughter loves this series. She highly recommends reading all of them. She thinks it is very cool that it is a mother/son collaboration between the writing and illustration.The book store in our area didn't have it on the shelf so we stood there and ordered the Kindle version from inside the store. In this book, a boy named Derek from Los Angeles and his best friend Matt like to skateboard and do parkour for fun. One day at the college campus of UCLA Derek is spotted doing parkour stunts by a man named Tony. Tony is a professional stunt man and stunt director in movies. Tony tells him about how much he like Derek's stunts and told him that he could be a stunt boy for a famous actor in his next movie. Derek compromises with his parents, that if he can be in the movie he would take some extra responsibilities around the house, and do some extra reading for school.When Derek gets to the set of the movie, he is amazing by all the famous people he meets, and all the free junk food. After Derek tells Matt about his experience, Matt is happy for him at first, but then gets jealous and does something mean to Derek. I think this story is great for anyone to read. It teaches responsibility, humility, and friendship.
This is the second book in the My Life as a ⦠series for elementary/middle school students that my daughter and I have read together. It has been a long time since I read the previous book so I was worried that I wouldn't be able to keep up with the story or character development; ended up not being a problem at all. Much like that Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Big Nate and other similar reads, this series doesn't have to be read in order to fully understand and enjoy.Derekâs life is running through series of highs a lows; one minute amazing things are happening to him then the next moment BOOM! This pattern repeats itself throughout the story in many stressful, humorous, and frustrating situations. Through it all Derek handles himself with more grace and cool then most twelve year olds enduring himself to the reader. Canât wait to read more about his other adventures!
