My daughter loves Fancy Nancy as well as the Nancy Clancy series. However, although I overall liked the story in this book, there was too much "pop culture" references in the book such as discussing videos going "viral," etc. I thought it was unnecessary to add to the book, and a little awkward for my daughter who does not use a computer or the internet as she is only 6.
Oh, what a wonderful book for children. So many lessons to be learned. The author, Jane O'Connor, has written a book that almost any school child can relate.Nancy Clancy is pretty well known to many children because of the book series. In this book, Nancy Clancy is in the third grade, and she has always wanted to be on stage, to be famous. It turns out the third grade, of which she is a member, has a school play. This year it is called The Nifty Fifty, a play on the 50 states. Today was the audition, and Nancy is going to play her guitar. She has been taking lessons. Her best friend Bree is going to tap dance, and Nancy's friend, Grace, who is jealous of Nancy will sing. Who will be asked to come back, or a call back. This means you have been picked to be part of the play. Once you have read this book, you will appreciate the work and worry it takes to be in a play. The illustrations by Robin Preiss Glasser, are done in black and white, and they portray all of the activities of Nancy, Bree, Grace, JoJo, Nancy's little sister, her mother and father, and all her school mates. If a parent/teacher is reading this book to their children, they will enjoy the lessons learned and the storyline. All children, it seems has someone who might bully them or make them feel bad. This is a good time to discuss those kind of things that may occur at school. The writing is wonderfully suited for children and adults. New words are introduced, anda has word is described so that the meaning is clear. I enjoyed the storyline a great deal, it was full of truths and wisdom.Highly Recommended. prisrob 04-03-15
My seven year old daughter, who is in Second Grade, loves these books. She was a HUGE Fancy Nancy fan--and still is--so she was super excited when we discovered that Nancy was going to get her own chapter books. The Nancy Clancy stories are a mix of Nancy Drew's The Clue Crew and Fancy Nancy...in other words, Nancy Clancy has brought her own unique, fancy style to the amateur detective arena. LOL Ms. O'Connor has certainly upped her game with the Nancy Clancy storybooks. Each book is just as well written, each story just as entertaining as any of the Fancy Nancy books. Additionally, the books are just as beautifully illustrated as the FN books, albeit they are in black and white. This story is the fifth book in the Nancy Clancy series, which so far only consists of five books--unfortunately! In this latest book, Nancy is overjoyed when she gets a part in the school play. She nailed her audition, but when her less than stellar performance during the play is posted on YouTube, she is mortified. Is she down for the count, or will she rise to the occasion? To date, my daughter has read all the Nancy Clancy books and is eagerly awaiting more. FYI, she is in Second Grade and is able to read these books independently. According to her, all the Nancy Clancy books are great and deserve five stars.
I gave this book to my darling eight-year old niece who told me she just loved it. I sent it to her, and she called me and told me the day she received it, she was already on Chapter 3, and still ardently reading it.The title "Fancy Nancy: Nancy Clancy" attracted me, and I felt my niece would enjoy this book, and I was right. I will continue to buy the "Nancy Clancy" series for my niece.
This is a longer book (120 pages) for kids who are reading on their own with confidence, and for the many fans of Nancy Clancey. The fifth in a series, Nancy has a faithful following, and it is easy to see why. The story flows so smoothly the reader will look down at the page number, amazed that he or she has already gotten so far, and won’t want to put the book down until it’s finished!Children will love reading about Nancy and her third grade friends’ adventures as they practice for the big show. There are lots of new words to learn with meanings cleverly inserted so they don’t seem like a lesson. Nancy’s parents provide a nice balance of fun, wise advice, and sensible boundaries.Robin Preiss Glasser’s illustrations are perfect for the more advanced reader, not as cartoonish as beginning reader books, but still cute, expressive, and full of interesting details.
Hi! I am 8 and I love fancy girl things. This is a very beautiful book. It's about a girl named Nancy who is in her school's talent show called The Nifty 50. Unfortunately, Nancy gets stage fright. Will her little sister come to the rescue? I also adored the splendiferous illustrations. Even though they are in black and white, they are still beautiful. If you read this book and loved it, you can read all the other Nancy Clancy books and the Fancy Nancy picture books. I have all the chapter books so far, and some of the picture books. I love them all, and they are all gorgeous, and I reccomend the picture books to ages 2+, and the chapter books for ages 6+!
