Take Karen Katz's fantastic illustrations, combine them with a simple lift-the-flap story, and you've got a set that should provide hours of fun for your baby. This set includes 3 of her more popular titles. Belly Button and Toes both talk about different body parts, while the third book is a hide-and-seek game between Mommy and baby. The first 2 are useful in introducing children to names for their body parts, and all 3 will amuse even younger babies simply because of the drawings. Our 7-month-old is too young to grasp the concept of noses, tummies, etc., but she loves to pull the flaps and to make excited noises when she sees the illustrations of the babies. You'd think that these might wear out their welcome quickly, but that hasn't been my personal experience. I've found that kids will continue going back to these ones over and over again. An inexpensive and worthwhile purchase.
I began reading these books when my daughter was a baby, and now that she is 14 months old, she brings the books to me to read to her! She loves lifting the flaps to see what's concealed underneath, and when I ask her "Where's Baby's Nose, etc" , she's able to point to the different body parts. I think these books are not only entertaining but very educational, and I can't recommend them highly enough!
The books were very sweet, colorful, cute and really does teach body parts. However, unlike other lift-the-flap books the flaps are glued on and not cutouts of the page like other books. My daughter is 15 months and immediately ripped several flaps off just lifting them up too roughly. I tried to glue them back but she just ripped them off again. This book is made for babies/toddlers but doesn't withstand their normal activity.
This is a great set, but don't purchase it if you have a toddler who is obsessed with ripping paper. Mine cannot behave herself with anything rip-able. Therefore, after she attempted to rip all the flaps out of the first book, I gave up and put all the books away. I am looking forward to pulling them out again in the future, when she's a little less interested in destruction.
My 15 month old LOVES these books. Beware though, after a few time through, she decided to open the flaps herself and tore most of them off. I have started to retape them with packing tape and so far they have stayed on. Just not books you can leave them to look at by themselves, like many of her other board books. Even without the flaps though, these are her favorite books right now!! She is always surprised when we open the flaps to see what's inside.
My son got this as a first birthday gift and he loves all the books! He is 18 months now and they are still some of his favorites. He sometimes rips the flaps off the book but not sure that can be prevented with a toddler and a little scotch tape fixes them right up.
I ordered these for my 8 month old son. The Box of Fun is the best value if you are looking to buy more than 1 of Karen Katz Lift-the-Flap books. He loves lift-the-flap books, so I figured I would give these a try. He loves the illustrations and colors, and of course the flaps! We love to sit down and read these over and over. He even likes to lift the flap himself. Great books for children. I know he will love these for many more months!
Karen Katz books are awesome! My daughter has had several of them since birth, and is now two, and picks them off the bookshelf to read almost everynight. By lifting the flaps, she really feels she is participating in the story. She's pretty gentle, and rougher kids may pull/rip the flaps. Note - the flaps seem to be bigger and sturdier - and the stories better - in the books both written AND illustrated by Karen Katz. LOVE her books!!
