I liked this story because it doesn't simplify the story of America's discovery. We can see ambitions, greed, and selfishness as part of the voyages to America. There is no romanticized view of the contact between Europeans and native populations. I was quite surprised to see that in a graphic text. Like the biographical texts in these Graphic Library collections, the text lends itself to thematic discussions, comprehension strategies, exploration of characters' motives, goals, and personalities, and its graphic retelling is a motivating factor to look for more information. I give it a high recommendation.

This is good history, presented in a fun comic-book format that gets the attention of kids who would not ordinarily enjoy a historical book. Plenty of action, from storms to shipwrecks to armed uprisings to Spaniards slain at the fort to Columbus being shipped home in chains.Try it for your child -- they might like it! But if it's for a school report, be sure to check with the teacher first -- some teachers don't approve of graphic books.Good notes section and glossary (includes words like colony, hourglass, monastery, noble), good index.

I am a teacher and my students absolutely love these books! I would give them 5 stars, but they are cheaply made and pages start falling out after only a small amount of use.

Great!

love it and it if fit fpr kids to read
