When I saw this in the store I couldn't help but be curious- to the best of my knowledge this is the first manga biography I've ever seen. (There's probably some in Japan, but not many over here.)The book goes over Obama's life & times, but I just had one big issue with it. The book seemed overly sanitized at times. I know that this is for children, but at many points in the book Obama is portrayed as some saintly figure. I believe that biographies should contain "warts & all", even if they are for younger readers.Even so, this book is still something fun to give to the kiddies for a fun & educational read. For american manga, the artwork is pretty good & little Obama is just adorable!
My son loves to read comics. However, I was always worried about his reading choices being educational. When I found this book, I knew it would be a book my son and I would enjoy together.Cartoons can easily be weak in story, but this book is rich in content. My son loves to read because it is fun. He was impressed by President Obama's will to dream.
My daughter loves the President Obama I gave her for her birthday. She brought it to school and showed her friends. She spent her lunch period explaining to them why President Obama is great. This book describes how President Obama keep his dream alive and challenged his life in such a way that children understand completely. The illustrations are good quality and Child Obama is so cute. After each chapter, some of the people who influences President Obama are examined. This gives children even more role models to look up to. My daughter was left with the message "Don't ever give up and keep on your dreams."
