I am a teacher. I read the White Giraffe and I enjoyed it so much that I read all the rest. I mentioned this to my 6th grade granddaughter. She read The White Giraffe so I had to buy the rest for her. She read all 4 in one week she enjoyed them so much. The books are not only entertaining but teach about cultural differences and geography.

I've been reading Lauren St. John's books aloud to my younger son at bedtime. He loves dolphins (and penguins) so I thought he would enjoy the second book, Dolphin Song. I hadn't realized it was a series when we first started reading it, but after a couple of chapters, we figured out there was a previous book. It didn't matter. Dolphin Song worked fine as a stand alone book. Afterward, we read through the other books in this series (we read them #2, #1, #3, #4).My son and I both enjoy learning about Africa and all the animals by reading these books. The author inserts real world information into her fictional story. Her story has inspired us to look up photos of the places she mentions in her books, as well as photos and more information about the animals. My son wanted to know what a bushbaby and a springbok looked like, so we Googled images of them. He wanted to hear examples of the Click languages of Africa, so we found some YouTube videos. The author uses a few words, phrases, and concepts that are beyond my 9 year old, but they just trigger conversations about anything he doesn't understand. There are some sad parts in the series, but overall, I think they are positive books. The Elephant's Tale does have quite a bit in the story about Climate Change and water shortage. This was slightly upsetting to my son, but we had several conversations about it and things we can do to maybe change that (and reminding him about our solar panels). Martine and her friend Ben are wonderful and full characters. I thought that reading the *whole* series helps to see how Martine and her grandmother Gwyn Thomas's relationship evolves.Throughout the series, there are scenarios that seem highly unlikely for one or two 11-year-olds to be in, but I was still able to use a bit of willing suspension of disbelief to keep the story going.

This series is about two friends who live in Sawubona,Africa and go all over Africa saving animals' lives. One of the friends, Martine, has a special power. The power is to heal animals. She uses her power to heal the animals and to stop people who are trying to kill the animals. The main characters are Martine and Ben. She is an eleven year old girl who moved to Africa to live with her grandmother because her parents died in a house fire. Ben is also eleven years old and very kind and helpful.Other characters are Grace and Gwyn Thomas. Grace is an African seer which means she can predict the future. Gwyn Thomas is Martine's grandmother. She owns the Sawubona game reserve.I would recommend this series to those who like mysteries and adventure.

This book I read with my mother daughter book club and we thought that it was a creative display of events, but the ending explanation was very fast and we had to read it three times over. Overall it was a very interesting read.

This book had lots of twists and suspense. This book is very good for kids who like animals. I highly recommend it.-Grace, Age 8

I have read all four books and loved every single moment with all the characters and animals. Please right more they are wonderful.

A very informative book on life in Africa. My granddaughter loved it. I read it before her and I also loved it.

The fourth in a series for my son, couldn't find at library, happy to get for kindle so he could finish series.
