There is nothing like the classic stories for young children. I bought these for my grandchildren (4 and 5) and they love them. Nightly readings include Babar and Madeline. A subtle lesson is in each story and is portrayed in in entertaining manner.

This was purchased as a gift for a friend. I loved this book and other Babar stories growing up. It is a sweet story and seemed perfectly fitting to gift to a soon-to-be mom with elephants as the theme for her son. The book itself appears to be made of reasonably high quality materials. The gloss on the pages was shiny, but not too shiny. The cardboard of the pages was sturdy, it feels like it will withstand years of baby and toddler drool and love.

My kids loved Babar books. We even had the stuffed Babar animals. I wasn't sure the elephant family would appeal to my two year old granddaughter. Luckily, it does. She has a lot of books that just sit on the shelf and several that she wants us to read over and over. Luckily, one of the popular books is this one. I am really pleased as I also love this unusual elephant family.

The key word is "adaptation", which I clearly see in the description now. As another reviewer stated, there's no story line. This is due to missing text that was in the original book, Meet Babar and His Family, and is the result it being board-booked (a new verb that I just made up). To have it listed on as being by the original author is a bit misleading. Since the original book itself is short, there was not much they could really shave off. Someone took that reality as a challenge to overcome, leaving a half-digested smattering of words. If uttered aloud or even just read, these words may cause someone may lose brain-cells.I would say this...don't judge the Babar stories by this adaptation. The originals are worth it and fun to read but may not be in board-book format.

"Babar and His Family" has bright, colorful pictures & a storyline introducing Babar's family. Perfect boardbook for babies & toddlers.

Purchased for my daughter who is expecting her first baby, and we enjoyed reminising as it was one of her favorite childhood stories!

My granddaughter loved the book about Babar and his children. She is almost 2 years old and just reaching the age where she can follow the plot of a story, and it kept her attention.

If you don't know Babar, this is a lovely introduction. The story feels very European and somewhat dated, but it's still fun for me to read with my 11 month old daughter.
