I chose this book while I was a substitute teacher during their instructor's K-8 Spanish leave for 5th-8th grade. I have not used the elementary version. I was floored by how flawless, yet self-explanatory the book is for first-time learners. I had many native-speakers in the classroom that were able to grasp the grammatical rules of Spanish they had spoken all of their lives. (both literate, and illiterate). It covers the basics (Telling time, articles, plural nouns, etc.) While moving onto more complex rules such as the differences between "Ser and Estar" and when to use them. "Saber and Conocer", Regular AR, ER, and IR verbs, and Ir a + infinitive. It is also complete with a glossary in the back.***There is an answer key in the back, and if you want to use it as an actual workbook for students, rip out those pages.***Will be buying the elementary version to use in the future.Recommendations: Accompany this workbook with a lecture so they can understand what they are doing before you assign it as homework.
I have been using this workbook for a beginner's Spanish class of mostly adults. I thought that since it is geared toward middle/high school it might be appropriate. It is a great workbook, but would be better for students that have already been exposed to some Spanish. My adult students with no exposure at all are taking quite awhile to grasp the first few pages! I do like it, but it seems to move a little quick for beginners.
I have been teaching Spanish for 29 years. This is an excellent, basic resource which I use as a supplement to my Spanish 1 and 2 courses for remediation and enrichment. My students seem to gain confidence in their skills and enjoy the new vocabulary presented in the activities. I highly recommend any of the Cynthia Downs titles! I also highly recommend. Building Spanish Vocabulary: Winning Ways to Teach and Practice Spanish (Level 1) (Skills for Success)
This book is excellent. I already had one other of this publishers books and I think that the material it covers is very good. It,s simple to follow and easy to learn.I use it to teach my 2 girls that I home school. I recommend it greatly.
I am using this book for a beginner Spanish class and have been very happy with it. It is easy to use and covers all the basics.
I am 36 years old and decided to teach myself Spanish. I got this book so I could start at the beginning and I am glad I did. Yes it is an elementary level workbook but that is where I needed to start. I did get several different workbooks like this and it did got a little boring going over the same things but it was also really good review and I am glad that I got these.
I bought this for my 10 year old who's been showing an interest in learning Spanish, she is doing very good considering it's for high school. This book is very good for your child, even I'm learning a thing here and there, the answers are at the back so I can check her work. I highly recommend this book, very straight forward work that teaches a lot
I like how this book introduces the very basics of Spanish to students who are starting at zero knowledge. However, the typeface used for this book is TERRIBLE. It's very difficult to distinguish o's from the a's in the sentences and it frustrates me constantly while I'm trying to teach my son the basics of Spanish. I'm ready to throw this book away for that reason alone. If they would change the typeface to a standard easy-to-read Times Roman or Helvetica, this book would be 100% better to work with.4.5 Stars for teachable content2 stars for the terrible typeface use.
