It's never too soon to start teaching boys and girls a second language, and this book presents pages filled with cheerful color pictures that help teach Spanish words to English-speaking children in early grades. It presents more than 350 illustrations of familiar objects, with nine pictures on each page. Every picture is labeled with its English word, followed by its Spanish equivalent. The translated word is followed in turn by a phonetic spelling in smaller type. Words are grouped according to themes, such as Sports, The Classroom, Fruit, Vegetables, Party Time, Weather, and many others. For example, the nine illustrations on the Sports page show pictures with bilingual labels for football, table tennis, skiing, fishing, gymnastics, athletics, cycling, swimming, and basketball. Here's a fun way for younger English-speaking children to build a basic vocabulary in Spanish.

I bought this book to do some very light Spanish learning with my two young kids (3 and 5). We were mostly looking for something that would help us learn fun new vocabulary while delighting the kids. And this book works for us! Each page only has a handful of pictures and words, which is perfect for us -- we just have fun with one page at a time. The kids and I both love the sweet little illustrations -- they're very fun without being cutesy. I am grateful for the pronunciation guide, since I am learning Spanish WITH the kids and need help in that area. It's just a fun little book! Certainly not the end-all-be-all of dictionaries, but a great introduction to new vocabulary! We love it so much that I am ordering a second copy (we lost our first one at some point!).
Not at all appealing format and boring illustrations. I cannot recommend this.I have had many other Spanish English picture dictionaries and this was the least appealing. I think it would be better to make your own with cut out pictures from magazines. This feels like one of those horrible texts from the 1950's where you learn to hate learning another language.
For children just starting to learn Spanish (and for adults who don't have a lot of time to invest in learning rudimentary Spanish), this is a great little book. It's divided into sections based on day-to-day subject matters with pictures and words (as well as pronunciations) to help one learn these many words quite easily, and the illustrations are excellent. It also comes with a CD to give extra support! I really love the book and gave a copy to our grandson who is starting first grade in a Spanish-language magnet up in Folsom, CA.
Great ABC pronunciation at the beginning. The first page items were also fine. However, further in several of the words were not Spanish translations. Stove, pot, toilet, living room, television for example were not recognized by Spanish speakers as being Spanish. I returned the purchase.
This is a great starter dictionary for kids! I bought this for my 3 year old grandson and he immediately caught on. It is clearly written with great illustrations and easy to understand the phonetics. I highly recommend this.
this book was given to my 5 year old grandson who is learning Spanish in kindergarten. he was excited to receive it and looked at it fromcover to cover immediately. very good choice for a gift.
This book was better than I anticipated. We are doing "preschool" at home and attempting to teach our girls other languages...great book!
What a great little book - good not only for children but for adults looking for basic vocabulary terms. Want to purchase more of these in different languages for kids (and for me).
