As a long-time fan of the Itty Bitty Kitty Committee website, I've been looking forward to this book for quite some time. It certainly doesn't disappoint -- granted, it's not a complete how-to-raise kittens guide, but that's not the intention. It's filled with charming lessons for kids about how to care for kittens and simple crafts and toys they can create, and wonderfully adorable photos that kids and adults alike will enjoy. Laurie's kitten photography has been amazing me for years, and some of my favorites are included in this book (although she could easily fill a coffee table book with her stunning kitten and cat photography; I wish she would! Maybe next?). The kitty humor and Charlene Butterbean advice columns are completely charming, too, as are the stories about some special kittens that are included.I highly recommend this book for youngsters who love kittens and adults who love cute kitten pictures and stories!
I love the photographs in this book! It's a book for kids, but I bought it because I was charmed by the pictures. I also like it because it's unique. So many movies and books feature kittens in a way that makes people want to let their cat have a litter, but I've never seen a book about fostering kittens. It shows kids how they can enjoy kittens without adding to the cat overpopulation. So I think it's a good message, and would make a great book for any kid or adult, or to put in a waiting room, or as a gift to cheer someone up. You can't pick it up without smiling. Also, I checked out the author's website (same name: theittybittykittycommittee). It's a blog about kittens, and it's really original and fun.
As a long-time follower of the Itty Bitty Kitty Committee blog, I had high hopes for this book. Laurie takes magnificent photos of her foster kittens and describes them and their doings with warmth and humor, and there's plenty of both in the book as well as in the blog. The book also adds advice for those raising or fostering kittens and cat-related craft projects. The book certainly wouldn't work as an only source for somebody planning to raise kittens (that's not the intention, even) but it's great for somebody looking for general kitten advice, a gift for a cat lover, or simply a charming book to leaf through. My one disappointment is that the book is rather itty-bitty, too, so many of the photos are close to thumbnail-sized. I personally would have liked more photos and even more of a coffee-table book presentation. However, this is a small grumble.
I follow Laurie Cinotto's IBKC blog, and had been awaiting this release. This dear book is even better than I expected! For children, this book is such a sweet read. It has a great balance of words and photographs, and a nice variety of how the material is presented with kitten comics, stories, beautiful photographs of kittens, hints and tips, etc. I can see children going back to it on the bookshelf again and again. I think that the narratives about the families of kittens are just the right length for the age group to which the book is addressed. I think this book could be one that even reluctant young readers can get engaged in, too, because you can open it to any page and just start reading. I'm a lot older than children, and that's how I feel about it!I'm purchasing copies for my sister's fourth grade class (she's the teacher) and I think the kids will love learning about people who provide foster care for homeless kittens, learning about kittens themselves, and of course, looking at sweet kittens.
What a sweet book that teaches too! Photos are gorgeous, stories are delightful and honest. This would be a great gift for anyone who loves cats, is considering getting a kitten, or wants to know the truth about fostering! It is also a nice non-fiction storybook for children and adults alike.4 thumbs up!
A lovely book that is nicely presented with fun fonts and graphics mixed with adorable photos of kittens doing what kittens do. It is not a "everything you need to know in minute detail about raising kittens" book. The book showcases what a foster "kitten" mom does to nurture litters, their ups and downs and their silly interactions, till they are able to find their forever homes. The photos are beautiful and will make you smile...
The review copy of THE ITTY BITTY KITTY COMMITTEE that I received (for free in exchange for a fair review) is a little different from other review books I have received. The front cover proclaims it to be a "promotional sampler." It reads as if it contains only the beginning of the actual book but I'm giving it 5 stars based on the extreme cuteness of the photos. Also assuming the book will go on as it begins, you can expect to read the stories of various "kitten families" that the author has fostered, learn how to care for kittens and discover craft projects to make for your pet. The sample includes a pattern for a "no sew cozy kitty bed."I would recommend this book for families with elementary school aged children that are considering adopting or have a cat. But any cat lover may find it irresistable.
