Look, look! Children run, fish swim, stars shine . . . all for baby's eyes to see. This sturdy board book, full of high-contrast black-and-white cut-paper art perfect for staring at, is just the thing for the eyes of the youngest babies. A few words in curving red type on each spread describe the scenes -- a car races, a cat stretches, flowers bloom-- and extend the book's age appeal so that it will be fascinating to older babies, too. Striking and stylish, Look Look! is the ideal first board book for babies just beginning to look and learn. Peter Linenthal is an illustrator who has taught art in elementary schools for twenty years.

This book is absolutely indispensable. My son loved it so much as a newborn that now I include it in every baby shower gift that I buy. Waitresses and sales clerks used to marvel at how my son would gaze raptly at each page. While there are many black and white books for newborns, this one is special. Linenthal's creative and complex images really captivate babies, and even tell a story. One of my friends keeps the book open at her changing table and entertains her baby with the pictures while she changes her diapers. This book got us through many peaceful meals in restaurants! If only there was a book this magical now that my son is a toddler!

(My review as a mom and a teacher with an early childhood/elementary education degree)If I could only buy one book for my baby, this is it. In fact, I've been raving about it to every pregnant woman I know! The illustrations are all black and white (and red), which are the colors that babies see first. My son stared in awe and amazement at this book from his first days home from the hospital. I would prop it up in his bassinet on the playpen while I went to the bathroom, and I'd return to find him still staring. He would turn his head to stare at it, no matter where we placed it. At 5 months old, he still stops and looks at it intently when we bring it out.My only (tiny) pet peeve is that the last phrase says "All for you." (implying that the sun shines, flowers bloom, etc. all for the child). I usually change the words to "All for God" or just leave them out. Ya know, can't make baby all self centered. ;)Please, buy it for your baby and for others!!UPDATE: Now 2 years old, my son still asks to have this book read to him, and my baby niece who I care for during the week loves looking at the pictures just as much as her cousin did!

My baby's only a week old and he already enjoys looking at this book - we stand it up in his crib and he really seems to study the images, sometimes for 10-15 minutes at a time; he's very calm and alert while looking at it. If we lay him flat on his back, he even turns his head toward the book to look at it. The clean, simple black and white images are graphically appealing to adults as well - as a designer, I love being able to give my baby a book that not only reaches him on his level, but that I consider to have good design.

My son, Daemon, LOVES this book. I bought it for him when he was almost a month old, and he just gazed at each page for the longest time. So intrigued! He is now 2 1/2 months old and still loves looking at it. If he fusses during tummy time, I prop this book in front of him, and he would just stop to stare at the awesome black and white images. Now he just gives me the biggest smile every time I show him this book. It's our favorite!!!

My little one LOVES this book right now. He picks this book before any of the ones we have for me to read to him. We talk about the pictures and I give him the names of the images in both English, Spanish or another language. I agree with one of the reviewers that the images are kinds weird to adults (for me the sun one was freaky looking at first). But its amazing how much babies love the smiling black and white faces and smile back at them. I liked the Tana Hoban books just as much, but for some reason the little one loves this one more.

As a new mom to a 7 1/2mth old, this was a great investment. She loves the book!! It is simple, colorful and easy for her to manipulate. I would recommend this one to everyone from a parent of a newborn and up!!! Enjoy!

Baby can't get enough of this book and instantly stops whatever she is doing to stare in wonder at each page. When baby was reluctant to do tummy time, I opened the book up in front of her, set it on its edge and placed her on her tummy and she immediately lifted up and stayed that way for much longer than normal.

This book is nice enough... It's a short book and is full of high contrast pictures that capture my seven week old's attention. I recently made my own high contrast pictures with markers and poster board paper for free(I already had the materials from a school project years ago) and she loves them just as much. If you have the time, I'd recommend saving money and making pictures on your own. You can also download and print pictures from the Internet for free... Sights such as http://baby.zorger.com/....
