When you head to the library, it’s much easier to find what you’re looking for because “all the books, magazines, and other items are sorted into groups.” Not so with the Internet! It can be frustrating to try to find something you’re looking for with the sheer number of websites out there. There won’t be any librarian around when you’re trying to do your research at home. If you learn about how the Internet works and how to do a search “you’ll find the information you’re looking for more easily.” There are plenty of ways to improve your ability to make those searches easier and this book offers up plenty of suggestions.Of course you’ll need to “know what you are searching for.” If you simply throw out a single word into a search engine, you’ll get way too many sites. Learning how to narrow done your search will make it much easier to find what you’re looking for. Google isn’t the only search engine around. In fact there are several kid-friendly search engines listed in this book. Google is great, but search engines like KidzSearch and KidRex are more appropriate (and safer) for kids. One thing that helps is learning how to phrase workable questions and / or keywords. This will “help to make your search much more specific.”There are other ways to narrow down that search including learning how to use quotation marks, the minus symbol, and hyperlinks. You’ll learn all about the value of using them in this book as you go about searching for information. When you use them you’ll find many different “matching sites [that] are listed on a results page.” Finding millions of hits in your search? Narrowing down your search just could get you what you’re looking for!
