Great for my work with children that have language deficits or delays.
I buy the book for linguistic purposes, but as a reader I enjoyed it very much, it is not colored as Mercer Mayer's new series on Little Critters however it warms your heart and make you smile. An excellent example of story telling without any words.
I am a speech-language pathologist and I recently began using the Systematic Analysis of Language Transcription (SALT) software to analyze language samples with Spanish-English speaking children to conduct a deep analysis of their narrative structure. This is one of the books that is on the SALT database to use as an elicitation tool. As usual, I love the size of this book collection and I use this weekly when conducting bilingual Speech and Language Assessments. Of course I also love other Mercer Mayer books that I read with my own children.
I am a Speech-Language Pathologist who has used this book for years to help develop language in young children. Research has shown that books like this, with characters that have feelings, a definite plot, problem and resolution are great books.
This wordless picture book is useful for collecting language samples from young children. As a graduate student in a Speech-Language Pathology program, I have used this for several projects involving children's language samples and in my clinical practicum for evaluations.
I love this series of books. I purchased them for my 4 year old grandson but found that my 3 year old granddaughter was totally taken in by the idea that she could read too. What a great tool to get your children wanting to learn how to read!
My first grade students and I just adore this wordless book! I have used it in a variety lessons, from teaching my students about metacognition to looking for details to asking questions to inferring. Absolutely fantastic! I really want to buy the rest of them!
I was looking forward to using this with my ELL students but can not use this because of the size. Learn from me and review the size before purchase. I never realized I needed to pay attention to the size of hardcover picture books. This is smaller than a Golden book!
