I love this book! While all of Mercer Mayer's wordless frog books are delightful, this is definitely my favorite. A picture is definitely worth a thousand words in this case. From beginning to end every characters' thoughts and emotions are perfectly clear. The illustrations are delightful and the characters' body language and facial expressions are wonderfully expressive. Even very young children can look at this book and understand what is going on.

My girls and I first stumbled across this book at the public library. What a gem! This wordless book is filled with the most amazing illustrations, creating a unique opportunity for your child to create (and later, refine) the story. As an educator, this book creates a really unique experience for your child to make inferences as to what the characters are thinking/feeling/doing, providing ample room for discussion.

A great series that is timeless. Every time you open this book you can change the story. OR let your child tell you the story. My son loved this series when he was a baby up to maybe 10 years old. His daughter is now loving them.

As a speech language pathologist I can tell you that this book is widely known for it's many uses. First of all it has no words, but lovely clear illustrations that children of all ages can use to tell their own story.

I love this series of books. I purchased them for my 4 year old grandson but found that my 3 year old granddaughter was totally taken in by the idea that she could read too. What a great tool to get your children wanting to learn how to read!

my kids loved these, now I'm buying them for my granddaughter - the illustrations, which are wonderful inspire children to tell the story, in their own words, as elaborate or simple as they want. As a librarian, a teacher, and now a grandmother, I'm delighted these are still in print to share with the next generation!

Mercer Mayer's A Boy, a Dog and a Frog series is excellent overall. The illustrations are charming, with naturalistic detail, and delightfully exaggerated expressions on the characters' faces. I'd single out Frog Goes to Dinner myself, as perhaps my favorite book in the series. I've read all of them with my son, however, and this is the one he likes best. What makes the series so good? the simple, wordless stories are easily understood by the youngest of children. However, they are universal enough (amusing, and with heartfelt emotion) that even adults will enjoy them. Plus, its great for a child's creativity to turn the book over to him and have him "read" the story.

When the boy receives a surprise gift box containing a little frog, not everyone in his menagerie is happy. Read the various faces of this "family" as Frog acts out his feelings. This is my second favorite book in the series. It makes for wonderful parent and child discussion about jealousy and anger and kindness and consequences!
