That isn't too much for anyone to ask, is it?Leroy and Maybelline's mishaps, from a tiny apartment balcony to a rain-sodden chase scene, will bring lots of laughter from listeners and readers alike. This is such a fun book! My daughter loved the Mercy Watson books and when we received this book she knew exactly what book Leroy Ninker was in and was excited to be able to see him in his own story. The author did a great job as usual to make Deckawoo Drive come alive with its' unique and fun characters as well humorous plot. We were chuckling throughout the story and had a blast reading this together. One of the things that I really like about this author is that she writes in a way that an earlier reader (let's say 1st grade) can handle reading by herself or with minimal assistance. That being said, this story is a ton if fun. You get to really get to know Leroy Ninker in a much deeper way and he gets into some fun situations with food and friends and so much more. If you liked Mercy Watson, you will love this new story, and if not, you need to read this and the Mercy Watson stories, you do not know hat you are missing until you do!*I received this for review - all opinions are my own*
This is a wonderful book for younger readers or a read-aloud book for even younger readers. Ms. DiCamillo has done the children's literature world another huge favor!
If you like the Mercy Watson series, you'll enjoy this new series as well. We got this for my 5 year old's birthday, and he seems to enjoy the story and the illustrations. My only "con" is that unlike our hardcover Mercy Watson books, the illustrations in this book are not in color.
Cute story. More words and a little more advanced reading level than Mercy Watson. We really miss the color illustrations of Mercy Watson. My boys (6 and 4) like it, but they loved Mercy Watson more. I cannot tell you how many times we've read Mercy Watson. This one we've read 2-3 times.
Oh so incredibly satisfying to be back with our friends from Deckawoo Drive! We are huge fans of Mercy Watson, and especially Leroy Ninker, so there are not words for how much my daughter and I enjoy this book, getting to see Leroy reformed, and such devotion for Maybelline! I can't remember enjoying a book so much- thank you, Kate DiCamillo and Chris Van Dusen, for bringing us back these characters we adore, introducing wonderful new ones, and helping us see what's next! Can't wait for the next Tale from Deckawoo Drive!
The team of DiCamillo and Van Dusen just keep getting better! The author has written a joyous, lighthearted tale that is a pleasure for young and old; while the illustrator continues to dazzle us with amazing images that are full of humor and life all the while limited by a black & white format! Simply fantastic!
We LOVE the Mercy Watson books and we read them over and over to our four year old. This was a great continuation of the stories from the characters on Deckawoo Drive. Kate DiCamillo is a fabulous writer and I would highly recommend any of her books. These introduce some big vocabulary in a fun way for young readers with plenty of context clues to help them figure out meaning and they are hilarious! I enjoy reading them to her and she really loves them. I can't wait for more!
