This story is so enjoyable for both the reader and the listener! Parents will relate to the boy in the book who wastes time and is constantly late for everything and children will love the rhyme of the story and the repetitious use of the word "fabulous". The old-fashioned illustrations are charming and this is definitely a book my 4 year old and I will be reading for some time.
This book has become a staple in my classroom Reader's Workshop program. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great classroom read. Here are the reasons that I love this book:1. The story is really cute. In this story a little boy who is different teaches everyone around him the meaning of not doing things the same way. I think that the moral of the story is very important. Too often younger children are taught to conform in every way.2. I use this story to teach students how to come up with creative ways of saying words. In the story the boy says the word "fabulous" for everything in the beginning. However, by the end he has come up with some many more adjectives to describe things. This becomes a great lesson for my students who use the same words. By using different adjectives that are modeled in this story, they are able to come up with more fabulous words.3. The illustrations are beautiful. I love looking at all of the detail in this book.Whether you are a classroom teacher, parent or just lover of children's literature....get this book! It is fabulous.
This a beautifully illustrated book. I'm amazed at the amount of time that Peter must have spent illustrating this book. The story is great, but it is the illustrations that makes the book.
Roger is a boy who understands the simple things in life, like a beautiful street and an interesting store. His parents and teacher, however, don't find him being late too fabulous. His outlook on life soon turns everybody around to his cheery point of view. As a children's bookseller, I see hundreds of new picture books every year, but this one definitely stands out, as fabulous!
Who doesn't love a boy who calls each and every thing "fabulous"? This was cute and rhymey, but if you are looking for a book about acceptance you may want to try "My Princess Boy" or "The Book with Pink Hair".
This is a book that is truly close to my heart. This story takes you on a colorful journey through the everyday world. The main character, Roger, points out all of the marvelous things that we pass by each day and perhaps are too busy to notice. Roger likes to have fun, and, though he has somewhat of a tardy presence, he enjoys life and stops to, as they say, "smell the roses". Sometimes we get so caught up in what's running through our heads that we miss out on all of the spectacular things in the world that are just waiting to be experienced. The illustrations are extraordinary, and the story is a trip with quite a few exciting detours. This is such a great book to read out loud. So remember, the next time you are late or have to be somewhere in a hurry; stop, take a look around, and notice all of those things that are just too FABULOUS to be ignored! Happy readingRoger is known for being tardy, and he is used to getting into trouble because of it. But, even though he wants to behave and be on time, he can't seem to take his eyes off of the amazing things happening all around him. So, sit back, relax, and enjoy the wondrous world with Roger!
This book is FAB-ulous! From someone who has used that word in my own personal greeting for years - I was delighted to find this book. The illustrations are also, totally FAB-ulous!The story is heartwarming and the pace of it is perfect.I bought 7 copies so I could give it to members of my family this Christmas. They know that I collect children's books and they've been the recipients of copies of some of my favorites over the years that they've passed on to their children. This one is going to be a hit even though I know that hearing the word FAB-ulous is going to get really old by December 26th. :o)
A story that touches on tolerance, but is mostly a rythmic happy count of a boy who takes the time to see his world and announce how "Fabulous" he thinks everything is. Very cute and fun book. Everyone should have it in their children's library.
