I bought this book for my 2 year old daughter hesitant at first that she was too old for it. When we got it she fell in love with it. She knew who David was from previous books we've read about him. This book is really well written and has great illustrations to help a young child understand their five senses. After just reading it a few times with her she now opens it up and points to her body parts as she sees them in the picture. For example when they show taste they show a sucker with bugs and trash stuck to it. And she'll say "Ew! Don't eat David". It gives room to discuss things a child should and should not do.
I am such a fan of Shannon's work! GREAT illustrations, simple vocabulary, totally amusing stories that pre-school or primary grade children can really identify with PLUS no matter how outrageous David's behavior each book ends with the assurance that while we might deplore the behavior...we always LOVE the child. Absolutely excellent on all levels!
My son (20 mo) and daughter (34 mo) LOVE this book! We got this and Oh David. They love them both. I think I like Oh, David a *little* better. But they're both great. We already had No David and they often read it in daycare also. We loved it. I was afraid this might be too young for them since they were already loving No David, but nope. They love it! And it's short with minimal words so they can flip through it and "read" it themselves now, too! There are some negative reviews here... I'm so glad I didn't listen and bought these books anyway. Especially, since now I completely disagree. We love the yucky sucker with the bug stuck to it! We say EWWWWWW! Don't eat that!!! And my daughter, on her own, said you can't eat food off the floor! That's how smart kids are, and how this can be a good opportunity to teach kids - the sucker must have been on the floor and now you can't eat it. And yes, there's a page that says don't touch the dog. In my house, we have 2 cats, and guess what? I tell my son not to touch the cats. So we can relate. (I pet the cat with his hand and say "nice" to teach him, but he's young yet. If the cat jumps into the living room and I'm not right there, my son can be a little too rough. So we just say leave the cat alone ;p ) And their favorite page? "PU David!" We interchange the words from the 2 books (Are you stinky?) because there's a similar page in each. We also say PU STINKY! when my son's diaper is full, so, again, we can relate. Overall, short & sweet, and our new favorites.
David Shannon has given our family years of enjoyment with his books. These books miss the mark and do not come close to the main series. The books are small with the thick tear proof pages. These will likely get donated. We will stick with the vintage collection and continue using them another generation.
Kids love David. The short English phrases are perfect for teaching English to non-native speakers. The entertaining art style and slightly naughty, very funny content has my students cheer every time I reveal a new book from the collection! Thanks David Shannon!
My 6 year old grandson & I love the David books, laughing every page! I wS hesitant about the new series it purchased this for my grandson to read to me which was highly successful. He was highly motivated to read the book & the word were Kindergarten age appropriate level!
I really did not like this product. It has about 6 pages total with no much content. On top of that, the book that I received had sticky food in it. Like it was used, but I purchased it as new. I did not like it at all.
My Autistic Grandson Loves David he just smiles when I read him these series of David...Thank you so much for these treasured Moments with a non-verbal child..when I ask Him what shall we read He Heads straight for David Smells
