I did well on the ACT myself back in the day, and I checked out this book along with some others so I could give a recommendation to a young relative who's getting ready to take the test.This ACT book is the only one I have seen that actually takes the exam apart on a fundamental level. It shows the reader how to figure out which parts of a question are important and then figure out the correct answer without any guesswork-- even on the dreaded science and english sections, which are usually the ones that seem hardest for most young people.One other thing I appreciate in this book is the way it stresses the importance of the mental aspect of test-taking. As Barrett explains, scoring well on the ACT is all about doing simple things correctly, over and over again. Barrett explains what those simple things are-- and then he goes the extra step of helping the reader understand exactly what it takes to achieve the high levels of accuracy that are necessary. This is reflected in the hundreds of sample solutions in the book and also in the many short chapters on technique, focus, practice, and all of those other related skills that make the difference between an okay score an an elite one.Just one more small note: To get the maximum benefit from this book, you'll need a copy of the ACT's official "Red Book" too. This is the only source of real test questions and it's essential to a good prep plan. These two books are all you need IMHO.
Was helping my daughter study for an ACT retest. Found this book (used Kindle version, which made finding things a bit more difficult) to be helpful in its approach. Using in conjunction with the Real ACT Test Book (mandatory), it provided an additional resource for reviewing questions and approach to questions. I sensed it gave my daughter some additional confidence that her knowledge base was "up to the task" and to be a little less intimidated by the test itself. She improved her composite by 4 points with a few weeks of study and I would certainly give some of the credit to this resource. I did review multiple other books and resources trying to find something that I thought would aid her process (of course the Real ACT Test Book is first and foremost), and I thought this book made the most sense.

This is the most effected ACT book you will ever purchase. I highly recommend it :) Mike has done his research and 100% knows what he is talking about. The strategies in this book are so helpful and unlike anything I have ever seen before. Do not waste your money on prep courses/ books from any other company. This is the best book on the market! I have had a huge score improvement, thank you so much, Mike!!(But seriously, this is the best book on the market!)
Supurb book with a clear approach to getting a high score. And explanations of the why of hundreds of frequently missed questions. It is a must-have book if you want to have a coherent and logical and productive preparation experience.
my sn using it came up from 22 to 32, by following the book, word by word and spent 4 hours /day studyng for 2 weeks. No more has to be said.
Great book that reveals the design of the test, the questions, and the answer choices. Unlike other ACT study books (and I have 9 of them including this one), this isn't a list of quick fixes that don't ultimately do much. The mere fact that it REQUIRES you to buy and use the official ACT red book alone indicates it is targeted to the actual test itself. The author explains a good number of the trickier questions from the "Red" book which does a great job of getting the points across about the test design. The first study book I'd recommend is the "Real ACT" or Red book, closely followed by this book. All the rest of the books put together might give you a 1-2 point boost. If you want to make real improvement on the ACT, this is your best bet.
