When Madeleine's parents go to the Pond Party, they leave Carl and the baby at home for a cozy winter afternoon with a babysitter. But Carl and Madeleine have plans of their own― they want to play in the snow! After getting all bundled up, they sneak off to go sledding, build a snowman, and even make an appearance at the party and try sliding on the ice at the pond. Of course, resourceful Carl gets the baby home before her parents return―and the babysitter is never the wiser.Everyone's favorite Rottweiler appears here in a wintertime romp.

As the owner of a Rottweiler who is every bit as sweet and patient, though perhaps not as good a babysitter, as Carl, I've loved Alexandra Day's books for years. We buy copies for every kid in our circle, and they are always a hit. The illustrations are beautiful and the lack of text (most of the books include no more than a few sentences, and have many pages with no text at all) allows the reader and child to make up their own stories for the pictures, which kids often enjoy. Personally, I far prefer that to reading the same text over and over and over as often happens with a beloved children's book. The basic plot of each book is the same- Carl the rottie is left in charge of the baby (and in later books, child) and baby and dog have a series of (mis)adventures, but everything comes out well in the end due to Carl's dedication. The detailed, lush illustrations give ample material for making up stories about their activities and most kids are tickled by the sight of a baby and dog doing all sorts of things that in real life they would never get to do alone (going to shops, out for walks, etc).Disclaimer: Yes, leaving your child alone with a dog is a terrible idea and no one should ever do it in real life. But these are gentle fantasy books, and a far better representation of the temperament of the average gentle giant Rottweiler than most pop cultural references.

Awesome .... Just awesome for kids and adults alike ! Especially if you are a Rottweiler Lover and owner. Very pleased and I now have all the "Carl " books to date. i am so excited to share them with my Grandson as he adores our Rottie, Maggie May

Having a Rottie Service Dog who pulls me around in my wheelchair the Carl books have been wonderful to read with the grandchildren though I confess that when we read together I tell the little ones the dog's name is Gunter. What an excellent series with wonderful life like illustrations that allow the reader to craft the story to the needs and understanding of the child being read to. One local elementary teacher has children write dialog for Carl books in their english classes.

I met Carl years ago when my kids were young and we brought Casey into our lives. A rottie pup. We were blessed with sharing 12 years with this amazing dog. Now I send Carls adventures to my daughter and her family to share and love. Thank you Carl

I love Carl and the baby and all of their shenanigans. I have the Kindle version of this particular book and the illustrations are bright and beautiful on my Samsung Galaxy Tab. I wish ALL of the Carl books were available on Kindle.

Great book for when you tell the kid "go read something!!!" and the kid says "I don't know how to read!" Now you can say, "yes you do." Show the kid this book and have him or her "read" it to you.

I received my first Good Dog Carl book as a Christmas gift 25 years ago for my son when he was 6 months old. He grew to love that and other books. I forgot about them as he got older, but after he had his first child, I was going through his old books, found some Carl books, and immediately went to to order more. They are absolutely wonderful.

I had one Carl book that I found in a grocery store clearance bin and it was the ONLY book my granddaughter ever wanted to read when she was at my house, so I had to buy some different ones in self defense. They are all wonderful, little children who are not reading yet can tell you the story from the photos.
