It's about time someone put these books in a box! Beverly Cleary's beloved tales of Ralph the mouse and his motorcycle have been enchanting young readers for a very long time- I first read them 13 years ago.Cleary has written countless wonderful books for children of all ages, from the numerous Ramona stories to the award-winning Dear Mr. Henshaw. The Mouse and the Motorcyle is aimed at the younger end of her audience, and kids can't help but love Ralph, the spunky little mouse with big dreams, who lives in a hotel and wants nothing more than a chance at riding that red motorcycle, the motorcycle that will lead him into countless adventures with his human friends. In Runaway Ralph, Ralph's visit to a summer camp turns out not to be at all what he expected. Can he avoid the more unpleasant kids in the cabin, and get back to his hidden motorcycle? In Ralph S Mouse, Ralph goes to school in a human friend's pocket, unaware of the new adventures in store, that will earn him the name of Ralph S-for-smart Mouse. These books are a marvellous addition to any child's collection.

Our son, just turned 6, has enjoyed all these books. They are great stories for ages 4 & up. Ralph and the humans he finds himself around go through a wide range of emotions and social situations that you just don't find in cookie cutter story books. The illustrations are just B & W 'pencil sketches' but he studies each one in detail. We were all 3 taken with the idea of the mouse cruising around on the toy motorcycle. I think that the author of these books was likely a motorcycle enthusiast herself as she clearly conveys through Ralph, the pride of ownership, the feel & excitement of the ride and the longing for the wind in your whiskers !! I found these while searching for motorcycle related stories for my son when he was just turning 5. They are probably my favorite books in his collection too. These are excellent stories that parents will enjoy as much as kids. I think Runaway Ralph is my favorite. I wish there was more than 3 of these stories - maybe I just haven't found them yet.- a mom

I remember reading this book when I was a kid so I bought it for my 7 yr old son. There are some very challenging words in here for him. He is at the "normal" reading level for his age. I think it's important for him to understand what he's reading, not just how to pronounce the words correctly. So, although I would recommend it for a 7 yr old, keep in mind it includes challenging words.

I bought this series to read to my after school kids program - they not only listened to the reading, but asked for more! As I read these out loud I again experienced the great story of Ralph, just as I did when I was a child! The kids are now telling me when they check them out of the library for their own reading assignments - how wonderful is that?

I bought this set of books for my 2nd grade daughter, as I remember enjoying them as a child, and she loved them. As they are not gender specific, I am hanging onto them for my younger son to read in a couple of years as well. As the reading level is about a 4, they are appropriate for advanced readers as young as 2nd grade and as high as 5th or 6th grade.

Ralph and I go back to my school days. We raised our children on Ralph and his antics, and now we are sharing him with a whole new generation. This collection of stories is straight out of the imagination of a bright boy or girl who asks "why not?" Why couldn't a mouse and a boy be great friends? Why couldn't they communicate, when no one else understood them? Why wouldn't a toy motorcycle work because the mouse got on it and revved the engine with a "pbbbbt!" and have it zoom off down the carpeted hallway of an old, musty motel? These books could be read aloud to children 5 or 6 years of age, and they'd delight in it. They could be read by 8-12 year olds, who would feel immediate kinship to Ralph S. Mouse and his pals. Teenagers could read it (by themselves or to younger siblings) with the secret delight over visiting childhood dreams once more. And even by adults who use their children as a wonderful excuse to enter into the imaginative world of Beverly Clearly again.

I loved these books as a child and now my 6 year old son loves them. I was so excited when I remembered these books. I was looking for chapter books to read to my son at night (we had started off with Charlotte's Web and now were looking for something else) and the only books I could think of all had a female protagonist. I noticed these at a bookstore and had that AHA moment where I realized these were perfect because they were about boys and mice - and my son loves animals. I read all three of these to my son and he loved each one.

I wanted to read these to my little ones at bedtime like my father did for me when I was young. I think I enjoyed them just as much now as I did some 30 years ago. These are truly timeless classics. The quality of this set is okay, and the box is pretty cool. It looks good sitting on the shelf in the playroom. I will be reading these over and over as my kids are already asking, "Hey dad, will you read us Ralph Mouse again?" I'm glad I bought this set.
