My 2 1/2 year old twins love the Mouse books and we ordered this one to add to their collection. They always ask for these books before bedtime. I really like the board books because they are very sturdy and so far seem to withstand the toddler years. It's Pumpkin Day, Mouse! is a short, simple story about Mouse and his friends painting faces on pumpkins. It has one or two sentences on each page and makes it great for short attention spans. The book teaches about different types of faces: happy, sad, silly, etc. My kids love these books so I'm a happy Mommy! I highly recommend this, and the other Mouse books, to anyone with young children.
My 2 year-old LOVES this book! We practiced making different feelings faces whenever we read it, which she thought was HYSTERICAL. She can now make - and recognize - all of the faces introduced... happy, silly, surprised, angry. She could not be any cuter making her faces and I am thrilled that she was able to learn something so important from this book!
This story is cute - it's short and simple, a very quick read. My daughter is only 4 months old, so this isn't one of the best ones to read to her at this age, but I am sure this will be a winner when she is older and takes more of an interest in reading herself. I recommend this one for more of the 2-3 age range, but isn't really a fun one to read to babies.
There's not much story here but the pictures are all cute. And the 2 two year old little boys I purchased these books for loved them! They would point to the faces of the pumpkins and tell you which face they were making, and which ones were there favorite, or which pumpkin they didn't want. Overall, I would say the book was a success for it's intended audience.
My kids LOVE this book (ages 1.5 and 3.) I was drawn to it when I saw that it helps teach some "emotions" (happy, sad, silly, etc.) It's also a fairly neutral book, not even mentioning Halloween itself, which I like since we're not "big" on Halloween. Simple, cute, quality-made book that my kids have me read over and over.
My 20 month old is obsessed with the If you Give a Mouse books, so we were excited to try another by the same author. I was somewhat disappointed that it was not in the same style as the other books, but it is still a good read. The colors are vibrant and it is a great way to teach toddlers about emotions
My 2 year old loved this book. It was a good introduction to Jack O'Lanterns, and after reading it a few times, she would identify any Jack O' Lantern we saw as sad, friendly, etc. If she was a particularly scary looking one, she'd squeal "EEK! What is that!" like from the book. She was obviously too young to carve her own pumpkin, so we let her paint a pie pumpkin like Mouse does in the book. It was a great connection to the book and a great way to get her involved in Halloween!
I love Laura Numeroff's mouse books and this is a really cute one for little people for Halloween. Board books are the best book inventions ever for the early book lovers. They stand the test of time. The illustrations in this book are really good and the story is just plain nice. Mouse has always been a great favorite among the young ones in my family. This one is a keeper.
