This is a good book for children 2 to 7. my son who is 3 1/2 and several of my dar-care-children enjoy looking at this book. It shows several species of sharks, talks about their gills and how they breath with their gills. Shows Scuba divers studying the sharks. The scuba divers where of great interest to the children. The photos are very nice. It has just enough information for a young child.

I originally ordered this book for one of our grandchildren, and I will try to give it to him as soon as possible. I try never to give a book to a child that I have not read myself. This book is suitable for elementary school aged children. It is packed with a lot of interesting information, and very nice illustrations. A few of the many different species are illustrated to give an idea of the diversity of sharks. It covers all aspects of sharks, their life cycle, structure and design of their bodies, teeth, reproduction, what they eat, and so forth. There is a section on how divers protect themselves when they study sharks. There is a brief description of how to behave if you are in the water by accident and a shark comes along. Not all sharks are dangerous to humans. The way the danger is explained is unlikely to upset most children, who probably already know sharks can be dangerous. There is no nonsense about evolution in this book, just facts. If you want a good book for children in this age group, this is the one to get. The vocabulary is a little stretching, but manageable for an early reader with some help as needed. It is clearly written and very accessible.I liked the book so well I ordered a copy for myself.

I bought this book thinking that it would have actual pictures of the sharks. It does not. It only has illustrations. The information is very good, but nothing you can't find on the internet or in any other shark book for kids. I was disappointed with the pictures. I wish I could give it more stars, but I feel that it only deserves three because of this.

My three year old son loves sharks. The aquarium is his favorite place to go, and we love watching sharks on the Discovery Channel. I bought him this book before he turned 3 and it quickly became one of his favorites. "Read the shark book?" was asked every night for a long time, and it's one I don't mind reading over and over. The book has a lot of great information and it's informative while still being easy for children to understand. My 8 year old niece has read this book with him as well and she also enjoys it. The graphics may not be real photos as some people complain, but they are very well done and realistic-looking. The book covers everything from live births and egg-laying, different types of sharks, what they weigh, how big they are, what they eat, and what their teeth are like, to why we need sharks in the world. We've bought my son other shark books since then (both educational like this as well as fictional) and this is the one he always returns to. We had a shark-themed birthday for my son as well, and passed this book around for everyone to write their birthday wishes for him in the cover so he can back when he's older. I've also been able to use this book to show my shark knowledge while at the aquarium with a friend and her daughter :-) Highly recommend this and one of her other shark books, "Sharks Keep Losing their Teeth (I didn't know that!)"

This beautifully illustrated book has some teeth. It identifies many kinds of sharks as well as gives information about their life cycles, how babies are born, where they live and how they eat. It is straight forward, does not demonize sharks or scare kids about them. And it's great to look at.

My three-year-old is obsessed with sharks and this is another fun book for him to learn a few facts. It has a lot of pictures. My only complaint is that I wish that it was a little more solid for younger kids but overall a great book.

The Best Book of Sharks gives a lot of information about sharks and human interaction/statistics/items we make with sharks. The pictures are awesome as well, making this my sons favorite shark book. He reads it to everyone who comes to our house.

If you are looking for some books for your young one to read and learn from "The Best Book of Sharks" is a nice start. Since it is directed to kids the detail level is minimal. If your kids like fish this book will have them asking questions. This is a nice book for parents to read to their kids, while they look at the pictures
