If you are an educator, this is a really helpful resource to teach self-control, thinking about how your behavior impacts others, and using self-talk to keep yourself focused. Usually after the first week of school, the behavior honeymoon is over. That's when you need to reach into your book basket and grab Clark the Shark. He is a sweet shark with good intentions but all over the place when it comes to being focused on learning. We need creative approaches when it comes to challenging kids. The students who are struggling with paying attention and being disruptive need empathetic strategies. I plan on rolling out a cute little lesson plan using a shark puppet - I have a feeling I will be referring to Clark MANY TIMES throughout the year. This is a winner folks.

My son had one good visit to the dentist, followed by a terrible one 6 months later. I don't know what happened, but I was determined to fix the problem for the next visit. I ordered this book a few months before our next scheduled visit. We read the book a few times, and right before our appointment. I also would occasionally mention being good at the dentist gets you a prize, etc. We even brought the book in the car on the way to the office. Long story short, we had an even more successful visit than the first! Thanks, Clark the Shark, for helping us get back on track with dentist visits!

I use this book with my 4th graders. It's a quick read, really funny, but also makes a point to make my students think about their behavior. Use it to teach literary elements, sequence (have students draw a comic strip), author's purpose, etc. I recently used it as a fun way to practice texted based evidence. Did Clark the Shark improve his behavior? How do you know this? Cite evidence(s) from the book.

My son loves sharks and insisted on checking this book out from our library. I could see this book being great for those kids who get in trouble for being "active" in preschool and kindergarten. So often, that behavior is labelled "bad" or "troublesome," which is kind of sad for kids so young... So what I like about this book is how it just says that Clark "loves life" and is excited/enthusiastic, and the teacher and Clark himself figure out how he can act appropriately, while still keeping that enthusiasm (at home and on the playground). I think that's a great message.

Both the book and the matching stuffed animal are cute! I look forward to reading Clark the Shark Dares to Share next year. Clark is quite the boy child, full of energy and excitement for school, but he's got a lot to learn. There is a time and a place and Clark has to work on his exuberance. Then a new kid comes to school and Clark can use his new knowledge to share wisdom to grow on.Thanks to HC.

My daughters really enjoy this book. It's great for kids who struggle socially and for kids who have a lot of energy/enthusiasm. They really relate to Clark the Shark, who is kind, but sometimes struggles to get along with "kids" at his school. Highly recommended.

I've read many fractured fairy tales, even fractured fairy tale mysteries, but none quite like this one. The tongue-in-cheek tone of the narrator add to the humor of this tale of misunderstandings and a fairy tale world that is much more gray than black and white. When Wolfgang (the big, bad wolf) is accused of trashing the houses of the three 'little' pigs, he is given until sundown to prove his innocence. With a tag along fourth little pig and his own rather doubtful detecting skills, he sets out to find the real guilty party. The details here were funny, with Cinderella turning out to be rather bossy and hard to live with and Hansel and Gretel being part time burglars (they did eat a witch's house after all), I found it amusing to try to figure out who really did the deed. I figured out the answer quite early, but younger readers aren't as likely too, although there are clues provided in the text for them to catch onto if they are paying attention. This book has more than enough silliness to be funny while still providing enough mystery to be intriguing.

My 4.5 year old really enjoyed this book right from the start thanks to the sea animals while I enjoyed the lessons included in the story. Like many boys his age he can get a little over stimulated and needs to be reminded there is a time and a place for certain behaviors. The book covered behaving in class, in the lunchroom and on the playground which were perfect for a kid his age.
