LOVELY! lovely! lovely! A story simple enough to hold very wee one's attentions and a visual world intricate enough to hold grumpy old people's!And a narwhale to boot! (eh!)
The Octonauts & the Only Lonely Monster is the debut picturebook story about the Octonauts, eight talented animals who seek undersea adventure, roaming the ocean from their "Octopod" base. The stunning, stylized color illustrations emphasizing simplicity, curves, and a "big head/small eye" anthropomorphic look gives Octonauts a unique appearance, while the story tells of their encounter with a lonely sea monster leading to an important lesson about the values of friendship and individuality. A wonderfully imaginative and enchanting tale.
Both of my kids (and I) love the Octonauts show. Each episode teaches children about an ocean creature, habitat (e.g., kelp forest), or location (e.g., Mariana Trench). In the past, we've bought stickers and toys to riff the episodes and explore, rescue, and protect! Well. . . the original Meomi illustrations are AMAZING, so I decided to buy one of their original books. Regarding the illustrations, the book delivered as promised, 100%. As far as education goes. . . hmm. I feel bad leaving this review, but I want others to know. This book has a completely fictional creature, who has no others in his school/pod/group, so we learn nothing about the habitats or social life of the real ocean. Again, the illustrations are incredible throughout, and the creation of the Octonauts characters and setting by the Meomi crew is commendable. But if your family enjoys the educational aspect of the show, this book is likely to disappoint.
We have a 2 year old who just loves the Octonauts. This book is one of the originals that the TV show was based on rather than the newer ones that come directly from the show. The illustrations are beautifully drawn and coloured, the story is both entertaining and informative, and there is plenty of additional information for your Octonauts fan
The story is good, both my toddlers love the show. These are stories from before they became so popular. The characters are cute and it teaches kids about ocean creatures and life. This was one of a few books that were half the price or less than some of the others. Considered how much cheaper this book was, it was worth it for the story. The only problems I had with these books is you had to turn the tablet sideways to read some pages, my tablet kept flipping the book the other way, that was a little frustrating. Other than that, it's a good book for kids 2-7 in my opinion.
This is a terrific book. The hardcover is thin and it's a great size for my 3 year old's lap. The pictures are very cute and colorful. The story tracks the Octonauts trying to help a giant "monster" find other creatures like him. (Spoiler) In the end, after a big adventure to search everywhere in the ocean to find another like the monster, they were unsuccessful. Not to worry, though, the last page showed each of the Octonauts in their own panel highlighting what made them unique.
For the record, rating as an ebook and not the physical book.Kids and I enjoyed it. They are, however, Octonauts fans.A giant monster shows up. Wait, not a monster, a sad, friendly, lonely creature, searching for others like him. (Perhaps he has amnesia?) This prompts a search through books and ocean alike to find out what sort of creature he is, and in the process learn its okay to be unique.Lovely illustrations, amusing content. Feel good kind of book. And based on the age group, the plot isn't too horribly thin.A bit annoying to read on kindles though. The zoom function is... limited and when you have two pages turned into one on the "search for the monster's home"/ traveling the world pages, the result is a bit frustrating to try to read.Overall enjoyable. But I probably wouldn't buy again, because the page thing irritates me.
Lovely artwork - story is a bit trite, but the illustrations make up for it. I find the text of 90% of the Meomi Octonauts books to be the weak link. But kids look past this. I love the artwork - gorgeous colors and intricate landscapes...just fantastic.
