I got this for a girl turning 8 years old. Her mom says she likes it, but that she is a perfectionist, so she has been tracing the pictures instead of drawing freehand from it. I would get it again for another child.
I wanted something simple to work with, partly for me and partly for the grandkds. It was pretty much geared to girls, but my grandson had fun drawing the little crab guy. My 7 year old granddaughter really had fun drawing the mermaid, and I'm hoping this will help open the door for her to enjoy art. Apparently they don't do a lot of art in her school.As an extra note, I liked it well enough to order two more of his books. :)
This whole series is wonderful. They feature EXTREMELY high quality and easy to understand drawing instructions for early elementary. The instructions are simple, clear, and include short written directions. Useful for discussing instructional writing with young children. Also just fun to have How to Draw books available for students who are hesitant artists. My second graders really enjoy drawing the mermaids, but the rest of the Fun to Draw books are popular as well.
My kids are into these drawing books right now and this series is great for younger children. My four year old daughter has fun with it, although she'll probably be much better following the directions in another year or so. Obviously it's a book about mermaids, so I can't be upset, but a few of the drawings are a little under dressed for our family.
My daughter loves the content of this book and it really helps her with her drawings. I would get more of these.
Not as well-received by my daughter as I thought it would be. She likes to draw so I thought she would love this. No real complaint, but not something that gets used much.
Very basic- great for 4-5 year olds. My 6 yr old is crazy about mermaids. This will prob be a bit basic for her, but I still think she will love it!
This was perfect for my 7 year old daughter, great drawings and easy for her to duplicate.
