This book does little if nothing to show someone how to actually draw a horse. They take line drawings of a horse, then erase parts to make steps. I was hoping it would show how to get proportions or shapes correct, but it looks like the steps were created by someone who has never drawn anything in their life. I bought this for my 7 year old niece and considered not giving it to her because it was so poorly done.
This is actually a good beginner for someone wanting to learn how to draw the basics of the horse & pony figures. It is by all means not comprehensive, just a starting place for your initial pencil drawing. Happy with purchase.
I have looked through this book and it shows so much for drawing the horses and ponies step by step. I might be able to draw something now when we draw together. I think these are very awesome books and help and teach any age how to draw.
When you look at the cover you know that you aren't going for extreme realism or even remote realism. In truth, the book has a lot of images to draw but not the greatest detail. Each page contains about 6 panels with lines that eventually end up as the end result. There are three creatures per page. I confess, I haven't tried to follow the guidelines provided so I can't tell you how well this works for me. All I can tell you is, that if you are looking for a book that offers a lot of critters, this is definitely it. There are no coloring or shading guidelines. It is strictly a line guide. It is okay as a starting point if you are seeking to learn. However it will not teach you how to deconstruct the image (turn it into shapes) and draw it from there. Very cartoon.
Very nice but very detailed. Be sure your child has the patience to keep trying. My 8 yr old daughter gets a bit frustrated with it but I think the instructions are very good.
This was bought for my 6 year old niece. She sat down with it and other Draw books and it kept her busy for hours. It was very easy for her to follow and understand.
Bought this for my grandkids who likes to draw. I homeschool them and we use this in art class sometimes to aid them in drawing fun animals. They love it. It's simple and easy to use instructions are great for kids of all ages.
I ordered books for my twin granddaughters. They are both so different, one loves monkeys and so I got her a book on how to draw pets which included monkeys. The other one is GA-GA over horses, and this book is showing her how to draw them even better. She has a smile on her face when she sees what a good job she is doing drawing horses better now. Thanks to this book and easy instructions.
