What We Wear: Dressing Up Around The World

What we wear can identify who we are: what team we play for or what team we root for, where we go to school, how we worship, or how we represent our heritage. What we wear expresses our individuality, and clothes can make us happy, confident, and proud. Whether it’s a piper in a tartan plaid, a cowpoke in a cowboy hat, or a novice in ceremonial face paint, children everywhere wear different clothes and accessories for different reasons. But, one thing they all have in common is that they are all unique and beautiful. A celebration of clothing in bright, beautiful photographs of exuberant children from around the world, WHAT WE WEAR: DRESSING UP AROUND THE WORLD inspires young readers to explore the way clothing makes them feel and how it tells the world who they are. Backmatter encourages young readers to explore the way people dress in other countries and other cultures at folk festivals, at museums, and at home by asking about their own family heritage.

This book has lots of pictures but not a lot of information about why they wear what they wear. It would have been better with that added, but as far as photography, it shows a very diverse side of what children in other countries wear. My children liked looking at it but unfortunately it's not something that they can learn a lot from.

What We Wear gives children a delightful insight on what people of other cultures wear. From America, to South Africa, to Sri Lanka, to Japan and everywhere in-between, we see children doing different activities and wearing different clothing. Some are familiar to us, like soccer uniforms, while others may seem strange, like the shirts from the Ukraine. I would recommend this book to children who are interested in other cultures. The book doesn't have a lot of words (until the very end where it tells you where you can learn more about different cultures), but as the saying goes "A picture is worth a thousand words".

I read this book to kids in Nepal while there in a village for earthquake relief. The kids were interested and almost scared to see the images of kids from all over the world. It was amazing to see the innocent awe and fear on their faces as they, for the first time, saw the images of other people groups. When I had to depart from the villaqe, I gave the book to a darling little girl who has a neurological condition that prevents her from speaking though she understands some. I hope it brings her inspiration as she looks in it and sees smiling children from all over the world. It's a colorful, cheerful book.I recommend this book 100%.

I loved this book. The photos are wonderful and the children are so cute. As we read through the book, my students had loads of questions about why the clothes were different, where they came from and many more. It opened up a discussion which included a map of the world and questions sent home about ancestry. What an adventure we had!

Bought for a fundraiser. They requested our table bring that book. It is a very cute book. Only of pictures of children from other countries having fun. Dressed up in their costumes. No print.

colorful and with enough info, great to have an idea of clothes worldwide. My son already knows the countries from the pics.

Babies and toddlers love this boardbook! Seeing thefaces of their global neighbors always grabs theirattention.

The photographs in this book make it a good buy for the classroom and studies of diversity or clothing.
