Awesome book! Between the pictures and text, it would be interesting to a wide range of ages. My granddaughter is 1st grade & she loved a NatGeo Kids magazine I picked up a couple weeks ago, (first I had seen). I can't wait to give her this. I decided to order direct from rather than do the subscription based on numerous reviews concerning subscription/renewal issues. It is full of info & pictures & is gift quality!
We now own several of the National Geographic Kids books. My twin girls are 5 years old and they really enjoy learning about the different animals. I like that the text is written in a simple, straightforward manner that they understand. Also, the books are consistent, so they now know scientific words that have been repeated in many of the books. As you would expect from National Geographic, the pictures are spectacular. One of my daughter's especially enjoys the jokes and fun facts.
There are too many inaccuracies in this book. One would not expect that from National Geographic. The migration information is either confusing or just plain wrong. The tags used have long been obsolete, and today's tags are not placed on the edge of the wing. One day, these readers may be tagging monarchs, and they could place the tag incorrectly because of this image that remains in their head. And the migration map? It seems the monarchs stop at the US border!
My daughter needed a book about butterflies for her book report and this book saved her. It was very explanatory and gave her all the information that she needed in her age approved language, not too much wording where she would be in the dictionary trying to figure out what they are saying. She enjoyed it and it's a book that you can read over and over again.
This brief review updates much new information about these butterflies, and it does it with graphics and photos that educate and enthrall. Purchased for grandchildren in the 6-8 year range, it is an easy read but enjoyable and very educational. Especially helpful are the vocabulary glossaries and the charts. I was quite surprised to read some of the recent research results. It definitely is a good choice for older readers too, allowing you to quickly understand and learn while enjoying. Highly recommend!
This book has a lot of information in it. A little long for younger students. I teach kindergarten and they started to get a little wiggly by the 30th page. it has 48 pages. SO I split it up in two days. But great information and my students loved the pictures.
I am a homeschooling mom. We have been watching the butterly life cycle in our butterfly garden. This book talks about the migration of Monarch butterlies. The pictures are beautiful, and the information goes hand in hand with learning about the life cycle of butterlies. My kids are ages 5 and 7, and they weren't bored at all!
This book is mainly aimed at older kids learning about butterflies. The pictures are great! Especially wonderful are the pictures of the life cycle or the butterfly from the egg that is laid by the butterfly to the milkweed eating caterpillar to the chrysalis and back to a butterfly.
