You've heard of being a little mouse in the room or a fly on the wall? Well, Sammy is a spider on the ceiling! This is a good intro to Rosh Hashanah for small children, who will love the big, colorful illustrations. I also like the Sammy Spider series because it portrays spiders in a positive way. Spiders are our friends -- they eat flies and other annoying bugs, and are nothing to be afraid of!

I bought this book for a class of Kindergarteners to teach them about Rosh Hashanah, and it was really fantastic. Most of the children were not Jewish and it covered all of the basics of the holiday, leading perfectly into more descriptions and activities after we'd finished. The repetition and basic concepts in the Sammy Spider books are fantastic for children following along--by the middle of the book everyone was saying along with the story, "Silly Sammy...spiders spin webs!"I would recommend this book and the other Sammy Spider stories for preschoolers and Kindergarteners of all backgrounds. They're really fantastic.Just a note: the book uses simple vocabulary (challah, etc), so you may want to make sure you know how to pronounce some words that are used if you are not familiar with them.

My 3-year-old enjoyed it. It focused in the apple and honey tradition more than anything. Not that it was bad, I suppose I was just expecting more about the purpose of the holiday.

A lot of our holiday storybooks are too wordy for our 19 month old daughter, or the material is just too advanced for her. This book is perfect! It explains various aspects of the holiday while holding her attention and entertaining her.

Another great explanation of the holiday. What better character to explain and have adventures than a fun, lovable spider named Sammy--especially if a loved one's name is Sammy!

We have ALL the Sammy Spider Jewish Holiday books and I hope they make more. Our kids enjoy them and they provide an age appropriate look at the holidays.
