This is a good book to give an overview of several different key influencial individuals to the Christian Faith. It is written from a Protestant perspective regarding Martin Luther, William Tyndale, etc. It is probably best suited for kids age 7+ on to adults who want a quick, simplified summary of these individuals. For each person there is a summary, and then two-three 1-2 page stories regarding their lives. It also includes comprehension questions for each story which seem to help my girls solidify what they learned. Though many stories are quite interesting, some of the stories can be a bit dull to a child waiting for an exciting story. So, in order to keep my children's interest I often read it to them with animation, but I still see it as a very valuable book for us to have.

This is my wife's review since she homeschools our son:We bought this book to supplement our English language arts homeschool curriculum. The book has a great layout. It covers 15 heroes with 4 short stories about each hero. There are 6 women and 11 men. (There are 2 husband and wife teams.) The heroes served in many different countries so it is an easy tie to geography. There are dates associated with each hero (birth, start of service) which ties nicely to understand basic history. There are 2 heroes of color giving life a wider view. The heroes come from many different walks of life. Each hero story has identified character traits making teaching easier. There are Bible verses at the end of every short story which is great for weekly scripture memory (or pick 1 for monthly scripture memory). There are also questions at the end of each short story. The questions are deeper than just comprehension of the story.Note: There are few pictures in this book. There are pictures at the introduction story of each hero.Bottom line: The book is great!!!

This has been SO good for my 7 year old. We read a story and discuss the questions at the end, which usually sparks more conversation. In addition to being able to talk about what character trait(s) each person showed, I can remind him of these hero tales during "real life" conversations. He loves history, so the historical and cultural elements in the stories are right up his alley!

This book has 3 short stories various Christian hero's and missionaries! There is a focus of each story (for example, perseverance, obedience, faithfulness, etc), as well as a scripture and discussion questions. I'm definitely going to read these to my children as often as I can while they are growing up! I think it important for kids to know of people who came before us, and I'd like to give them more good role models to follow!I like this book so much, that I now give it out at baby showers for the people to read to their children!

My son loves reading these stories and last week when we were discussing Dr. Livingstone he brought down his book because he remembered reading about him in this book. The stories are short, well written, and the questions concise. Well written and much loved.

Great book. my 11yr asks me to read this book to him every night. Children know better than us that there "monsters" in this life, this book is filled with good stories that encourage children that these "monsters" can be defeated.

This is an excellent book containing spiritually inspiring stories of a wide assortment of seemingly ordinary individuals who were used by God to do extraordinary things. It covers the lives of 15 people in brief, exciting, and easy to read entries. Reading this book is a fun way to learn about church history as well as be challenged as to potentially how your life could be used by the Lord as well.- Ed Frank (Author of "How To Destroy Your Spiritual Life")

This series is the best series I have read on the topic of missionary tales. Dave and Neta Jackson have done an outstanding job of researching their topic. The stories feature lives of ordinary individuals who heard God's call on their lives and responded. You and your family will read about Gladys Aylward, William and Catherine Booth, David Livingstone and many others in this exciting series. We are using this series along with our unit study of "Galloping the Globe".
