This was a super fast ship...my granddaughter wanted this for Christmas and she will love the pictures for the different months. She had stationery cards with Lakota Indians and very much liked the designs. The wall size is super for writing on the dates... has an amazing selection of calendars!!
This is my upstairs bedroom calendar for 2015. I've purchased this in years past, and had to come back to it. The artwork is beautiful, and the wisdom contained on each page always imparts wisdom on an astonishing scale!!! scale!!
This has been my go-to calendar for the last three years or so, and I eagerly await its release every year. I have saved all my previous editions because I just couldn't bring myself to throw any of them away: the artwork is too beautiful and Mr. Marshall's wisdom too soul-stirring to just toss in a recycling bin like an empty milk carton.The calendar as a whole deserves a solid five stars, as evidenced by how many people are repeat buyers year after year. My disappointment is in this year's edition. In previous years, Mr. Marshall always assigned a virtue or ethic to each month, clearly visible above the calendar spread. For example, January was Love, February was Patience, March was Generosity, April was Perseverance, etc. and Marshall would then offer an anecdote, lesson, story, or observation to reinforce the month's virtue. This was wonderful, as it was possible to meditate or journal on that particular ethic all month long and consciously look for ways to practice it in daily life. Just a glance in the morning was enough to be a mental jog before the start of the day. These are inexplicably missing from this year's calendar, something I noticed immediately and am saddened by. Instead, Marshall just offers an observation or lesson for the month - many of which, granted, are clearly tied to a certain virtue. Others are less obvious, though, and it's up to the reader to extrapolate the lesson and corresponding ethic. This may not bother some, but I preferred the more obvious approach. I liked flipping through the months on New Year's Eve and repeating that year's ethics to myself, almost like a mantra.Still, beautiful artwork, as always, and Marshall's inner strength and wisdom shines like it does every year. I will continue to buy it and give it as a gift. I just miss the old format.
I love this calendar. The illustrations are beautiful and the ethical statements are well thought out. I have bought this calendar for the last three years. If you are interested in Native American philosophy, you will like this calendar.
The art on this calendar is unique and beautiful; though what I especially like are the pieces of information on the Lakota's life and beliefs. I liked the way the packaging of the calendar was handled the calendar came without any flaws.
My friend is originally from THIS tribe and I had NO idea when I bought it! He is a "Manly-Man" and doesn't show emotion: He cried!! BEAUTIFUL, wonderfully made calendar. Thank you!!
Love Jim Yellowhawk's artwork!! I never tire of reading the Native American virtues that are captured on each month's page. Words for all of us to live by.
