While this book has great info, I actually tossed it because a few of the illustrations were too graphic. For example, a young person with a knife embedded in their body, including blood. I'm disappointed because I feel it was unnecessary, even though it is historical. I know most people probably won't have a problem with such graphics, but if your kids are the sensitive types, be fore-educated.
Just came back with my 9 year old son and 13 year old daughter from a 3 week trip to PERU (we visited machu picchu twice). I was homeschooling them while on this trip. So before we left i ordered a bunch of fiction and non fiction books about Peru (some to read before, during or after this trip)That being said, this book was interesting to my son and even my daughter wanted to read it. It was informative and it helped prepare my kids for this trip.No issues with seller or shipping. Book was as described.
The graphics and photos -while beautiful -are too bloody. There is even a VERY SAD full page photo of a real boy sacrificed to the gods that has been frozen for hundreds of years. This book is not for small children.
These picture books are excellent tools to add curiosity and knowledge boosts to Ancient Worlds curriculum for middle school social studies classes! Artwork is wonderful!
