One of the problems with many history texts is their focus on warfare and military history -- fine as far as it goes, but not the only human story worth telling. This coloring book, featuring 27 architectural and engineering feats from 3500 BC - 1325 AD, is a great way to approach history in a non-militaristic way, looking at constructive accomplishments as a lens through which to discuss civilizations. Each entry has a couple of paragraphs of informative text. A very nice book. The 27 wonders are: the Parthenon, Temple of Artemis, the Olympian Zeus, Mausoleum, Colossus of Rhodes, Lighthouse of Alexandria, Pyramids at Giza, Great Sphinx, Abu Simbel, Hanging Gardens of Babylon, Petra, Persepolis, Stonehenge, Colosseum, Taj Mahal, Shwedagon Pagoda, Borobudur Temple, Angkor Wat, Great Wall of China, Stone Heads of Easter Island, Banaue Rice Terraces, Machu Picchu, Tikal, Palenque, Tenochtitlan, Mont-Saint-Michel and the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

I purchased this coloring book for my grandmother who has Alzheimer's. It helps her feel as if she is accomplishing something and also she is using her mind and hands to stay in the lines. It's an ideal coloring book for anyone who wishes to color like they use to.

This Wonders of the World coloring book is ridiculously inexpensive but offers excellent versions of the wonders to color. When I worked as librarian at my university, I entered a standing order for all Dover publications for many years, as they are all very cheap and all beautifully done!

This is actually being used as a supplement to our geography and history lessons and Dover produces excellent quality once again. The detail in the drawings is superb and the information provided under each is a great spring board for discussion.

Most of the pictures are of stone structures, not a very diverse color scheme. Pictures are almost too detailed to color with anything other than a fine point colored pencil. Kids weren't too excited about them.

This coloring book is pretty neat. While it gives you brief descriptions and a little bit of history about some of the wonders around the world, it also provides you with a nice drawing for you to color

"Wonders of the World Coloring Book" is a fantastic introduction to the creative works of the imagination of days past. This particular book, at a very low price, is just one in a great line of coloring books by Dover Publications in New York. Not only is it inexpensive, but this coloring book is a great teaching tool. By coloring a "wonder of the world," a child must pay attention to detail, with the end result of really looking at the work. Additionally, at the bottom of each page is a short paragraph with representative information about each wonder. Sooo--in coloring 30 pictures a child will acquire a short history of 30 works. Some places still exist, others exist just on pages of history books (and original documents which are kept under lock and key for protection from wear and tear and environmental pollution). As librarian, I wanted to show that books can take the reader to places "far flung" (including history) and reveal the glories of human imagination and ingenuity of both creations and books to record those creations. Some of the 30 works include the Parthenon (in its current "ruined" or "robbed" state), Statue of Zeus, Pyramids of Giza, Lighthouse of Alexandria, Petra, Stonehenge, Angkor Wat, Great Wall of China, Machu Picchu, Mont. St. Michel, Tikal, Tag Mahal, the Colosseum, and the Leaning Tower of Pisa.I used this book last week for the first time and discovered happenstance that these pictures make great flashcards. The first time I went through the sheets, I had to identify most of the places--for third grade and below. By middle school, students know the majority of these wonders and easily acquired additional information, plus a chance to renew their artistic creativity. A teacher or parent cannot ask much more of a fine resource such as this coloring book!

I like that there are educational synopses of the images on each page, however, some of the images do not seem conducive for coloring. That could just be based on my particular mediums. I would like for any coloring book of this type and adult coloring books is to always have one image per page and a blank page on the back so you can use any medium for each page. Good price, and I appreciate the images. I can still use my pencils.
